Is that the traditional irish reel, or a song?

I didn't know that there were two. This is the traditional reel, I think. The first part has a sort of a minor key drone, or so it sounds to me.

No, I didn't know if there were two or not either!
I couldn't get into the tabs just at the minute, as I'm soon going to bed soon - it's 08.00, and I've been up all night, again. But.
It' can be as simple as two basic chords, added with a third and forth which are only played once in each part.

Basically, It starts off in an E minor\ D combination, one change to each bar (sort of), until the last two bars where there is added a C (C6th sounds better), B minor and back to E minor again.

Please understand that I am just going through a rough visualisation of the chords, while humming the tune in my head, but it shouldn't be too far wrong.
Hope it helps,
B.

This is the basic format used in Rise Up Singing where / is a bar line and - signifies another beat with the same chord as previous:
DROWSY MAGGIE
Em--- /Em-D-/ Em--- /C-D-/ (first part)
G-D-/G---/G-D-/C-G-/
G-D-/G ---/GDGC/DCG-/ and Em to first part.

Is that clear? Lot of the B part chords are arbitrary in that run. Some folks use minors, and some don't do as many changes as I have above.
Blessings,
Barbara

Thanks Barbara. Those are perfect (to my humble ear). Brendy, I've never used 6th chords much before; a very cool kind of melancholy. I need to experiment with these some more.

Paul.

This is a fun tune to start out very s-l-o-w-l-y and pick up the speed with each go round. It's fun for the musicians and fun for the audience.

Hi! I even heard 3 versions of it. Try the following link, music and chords. http://www.blackflute.com/music/tunes/reels/drmaggie.html A simple trick did it: Altavista & Fast Search. There are also a couple af great sites to dig up music ( & chords) www. ceolas.org www. dojo.ie/musicbox/ www.prof.co.uk/irish1.htm www.mustrad.org.uk/

hope you can do something with it

hi, folks! I played with my group (with the bouzouki..) Barbara's chords are pretty good;we use this combination:

intro E D C D / E D C D

bridge D A G / D A G

D (bass : D #C B A) G Bm <<< da capo

I suggest to play in set with two other reels; Humors of Tulla (a great one) and Lucky in Love
