Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: Brendy Date: 19 Dec 99 - 01:44 AM Is that the traditional irish reel, or a song? |
Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: MandolinPaul Date: 19 Dec 99 - 01:50 AM I didn't know that there were two. This is the traditional reel, I think. The first part has a sort of a minor key drone, or so it sounds to me. Paul |
Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: Brendy Date: 19 Dec 99 - 02:17 AM No, I didn't know if there were two or not either! I couldn't get into the tabs just at the minute, as I'm soon going to bed soon - it's 08.00, and I've been up all night, again. But. It' can be as simple as two basic chords, added with a third and forth which are only played once in each part. Basically, It starts off in an E minor\ D combination, one change to each bar (sort of), until the last two bars where there is added a C (C6th sounds better), B minor and back to E minor again.
Please understand that I am just going through a rough visualisation of the chords, while humming the tune in my head, but it shouldn't be too far wrong. |
Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: Barbara Date: 19 Dec 99 - 05:35 AM This is the basic format used in Rise Up Singing where / is a bar line and - signifies another beat with the same chord as previous: DROWSY MAGGIE Em--- /Em-D-/ Em--- /C-D-/ (first part) G-D-/G---/G-D-/C-G-/ G-D-/G ---/GDGC/DCG-/ and Em to first part.
Is that clear? Lot of the B part chords are arbitrary in that run. Some folks use minors, and some don't do as many changes as I have above. |
Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: MandolinPaul Date: 19 Dec 99 - 10:02 PM Thanks Barbara. Those are perfect (to my humble ear). Brendy, I've never used 6th chords much before; a very cool kind of melancholy. I need to experiment with these some more. Paul. |
Subject: RE: Chords: Drowsy Maggie From: Rosebrook Date: 20 Dec 99 - 10:08 AM This is a fun tune to start out very s-l-o-w-l-y and pick up the speed with each go round. It's fun for the musicians and fun for the audience. Rose |
