I'm excited to be back in the neighborhood and playing with my mates again!

As you will determine, one of the joys of Secret Santa is learning about you and your region.

1. What is your age range?
Somewhere between 57 and 59 years young.

2. Gender?
Female

3. Do you have a favorite color?
Colors found in nature in the northern hemisphere: rich and dark blues, reds, purples, greens, yellows- not crazy about pastels, orange/browns.

4. Favorite authors/type of book?
Fiction: Happy/cozy/well written - I enjoy "English cozy" and love children's fantasy
Some fantasy. LOTR is my standard for all time. Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman and ilk (but NOT horror, macabre)
Folklore and fairy tales, especially from your region
Non-fiction: Nature, especially from your region. History, biography, some science.
Songs and tunes from your region
Knitting patterns!

5. What books have you really been wanting?
Alice Starmore's Fair Isle books
Song or tune books, or regional crafts, especially fiber, from your region

6. What type of music do you like?
Harmony singing, traditional folk, world vocal or instrumental music, anything from your region
Love early music, baroque, fiddles, accordion, concertina---

7. What CDs have you really been wanting?
You choose!

8. What movies have you been wanting (DVD/BluRay)?
I want to discover Doctor Who. I also haven't seen the newer Pratchett movies

9. What is your t-shirt size?
L

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what?
Handmade spoons
Beeswax candles
Yarn- preferably natural fibers from your region

11. What are some of your other hobbies?
knitting, gardening, sailing

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Pure gold (I'm lucky to have Dear Husband to take care of that for me)
From you, I would prefer hand crafted leather, wood, stone- especially from your region.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like.
I'm a singer, song leader, play accordion and concertina, I'm a contra and country dance caller/teacher, and an aging hippie happy homemaker.

I love dark chocolate, but don't care for chocolate with fruit, such as orange or raspberry
Other "sweet" loves: marzipan, vanilla cream, honey, ginger
I sometimes have an allergic reaction to walnuts, but other nuts are fine, even pecans.
I drink dark, strong "builder's tea" and my poison of choice is Taylor's of Harrogate Scottish Breakfast.
I do not, sadly, drink any alcohol

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry?
Silver, but I have very specific jewellery that I wear.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like.
I'm autistic, so sensory things can be interesting - I love the feel of velvet or velvety surfaces because they relax me. I'm also partial to sparkly things that I can play with.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful.
I'm diabetic, teetotal, terrified of clowns, spiders and dogs (among other things), and allergic to nickel silver and sodium metabisulphite (a food preservative). I also hate the feel of raw silk.

1. What is your age range? I'd like to think it doesn't matter - but old enough to be retired, and young enough to think that's ridiculous.

2. Gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? Purple

4. Favorite authors/type of book? Good historical fiction (Dorothy Dunnett - but I have all her books), good fantasy/sci fi (Ursula K Le Guin, Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman - and I have most of their books, too)

5. What books have you really been wanting? local folklore and legends. Medieval history (especially of Aragon and Catalonia)

6. What type of music do you like? folk and early music. Would like more Catalan/Occitan.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? I haven't made a list but my husband and family tend to be good at following those.

8. What movies have you been wanting (DVD/BluRay)? Nothing in particular. Live in the UK so US DVDs won't necessarily play here and we haven't got BluRay.

9. What is your t-shirt size? XXL (but I'm trying to lose weight!)

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? Trying NOT to collect more stuff as we already have a lot.

11. What are some of your other hobbies? theatre, walking.

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? Either, but if it's earrings it has to be real gold or real silver. Love rose gold.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I love finding out about where my Secret Santa comes from and what interests them.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. Not allergic to anything that might be significant here. Love natural smells, natural fabrics. A scarf, a warm hat or gloves (or even socks - size 6 UK) would all be welcome as where we live now is colder than where we were. By UK standards, that is!

1.What is your age range? 68, physically. Mentally, probably late 20s

2. Gender? female

3. Do you have a favorite color? No neon. I like the colors but they don?t like me.

4. Favorite authors/type of book?
Folklore, storytelling, story collections, oriental folklore and stories, science fiction, fantasy, anything local for you.

5. What books have you really been wanting? I work in a library, so I usually get to take care of that myself, but if you have any music hall, burlesque, or vaudeville recitations, etc. laying around?

6. What type of music do you like? Mostly traditional folk, vocal and instrumental. I was raised on classical, opera, and broadway, so that?s good. Oh, and medieval, Renaissance, Baroque - anything but modern discordant stuff. Novelty songs are always good, too.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? I always enjoy anything local to you, or anything you?ve performed on. Other suggestions: If you?re Canadian, I?d like something by Penny Lang. I heard her when I was in college (mumble) years ago, and loved every minute of it. If you?re in Great Britain, I really need another copy of Taffy Thomas?s Take These Chains from My Heart. I have another friend who needs to hear it, and I don?t really want to just burn a duplicate.

8. What movies have you been wanting (DVD/BluRay)? DVD, it would have to be Area One. Folk or storytelling, if you have any.

9. What is your t-shirt size? XL, alas

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? I sort of accumulate figurines of dragons, foxes, and other wildlife, also cats. Nothing cutsey, though

11. What are some of your other hobbies? Besides folk and storytelling, I enjoy Japanese animation (aka anime), and I belong to a medieval recreation group (SCA) where I enjoy classes in performing arts, cooking, and of course singing, storytelling, etc.

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? I tend toward silver, but I like anything pretty.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. Used is as good as new for me, maybe even better. Also, I?ve gotten some lovely Christmas ornaments in times past. So this is probably more than you ever wanted to know, but I thought I?d give you a wide menu to choose from. Don?t break your neck over this, as my grandmother used to say. I?ve never gotten a Mudcat gift that didn?t delight me.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I?m not allergic to anything.

Here is the 2016 thread for those wanting an early start, if their Santee participated last year. (That thread is closed so it isn't accidentally posted to - we don't want to wear out our welcome on the top of the page with too many Secret Santa threads in play.)

1.What is your age range? In between 61 and 63

2. Gender? Female

3. Do you have a favorite color? I like in-between colors (such as blue/green) and/or creative combinations.

4. Favorite authors/type of book?
5. What books have you really been wanting?

I've probably read it or got it if I wanted it, but I like, and don't buy art books cook books, books about local (to you) points of interest.

6. What type of music do you like? Mainly trad or trad-like a capella, Americana, or surprise me.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? I've either bought them, or don't know. If it's you, or local enough so I wouldn't have it, I'd love it.

8. What movies have you been wanting (DVD/BluRay)? Got Netflix.

9. What is your t-shirt size? XL,

10. Do you collect anything? I don't ever get rid of anything, so I have stuff. I like beads, and hundred-dollar bills are always nice, but out of the price range.

11. What are some of your other hobbies? I get tattoos. Is that a hobby?

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? I gravitate towards silver, but I like gold too. HOWEVER, I'm allergic to most metals that aren't gold, sterling, or surgical steel.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I'd love something you made. Knitting, jewelry, anything artistic. I like tasty snacks: chocolate, anchovies (not together), nuts, jams & jellies, unique local (to you) goodies. Except cilantro.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. Please see #12. I also dislike cilantro, so no homemade cilantro jelly, please.

Dear Sarah,

I have been going over my records and find that your behavior is making us at Secret Santa Elves Central very suspicious. We are collecting and sorting appropriate items pertinent to your unique situation.

In other words, I'd take warning, if I were you...

...which I'm not...

Aha! This is where you hang out, I think? Now, just to let you know that there are a couple of elves in your general vicinity checking out your naughty or nice credentials. Not to worry. We don't sweat the small stuff. Grand larceny or murder, that would be a bit of a problem, but I'm sure that's not you, is it? And we're not too keen on orange-coloured people with obvious hair pieces either, but we hadn't heard that about you. Things are being prepared ....

Dear Quad-J Santa, I'm very sorry I didn't respond sooner. No, I don't care for His Orangeness with the candy-floss (or cotton candy, depending on your persuasion) hair. I also have not yet killed anyone, but I confess I've had fantasies. No larceny, either, or I wouldn't be constantly complaining about not having money.

It's great to hear from you! Any present would make me happy. I'm the kid that unwrapped gifts, got the toys out, and played with the box. (I'm pretty sure I can find boxes here, though. :)

1. What is your age range? Early 60s.

2. Gender? F

3. Do you have a favorite color? Dark Blues and Greens.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? I have too many books already, probably not a good avenue to pursue.

5. What books have you really been wanting? See #4.

6. What type of music do you like? Your music!

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? See #6.

8. What movies have you been wanting (DVD/BluRay)? Nothing I can think of, with NetFlix, AmazonPrime and a good public library system at my disposal.

9. What is your t-shirt size? Large - they shrink to the right size.

10. Do you collect anything? if so, what? I like geology samples, crystals.

11. What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, sewing,

12. Do you prefer gold-tone or silver-tone jewelry? I don't use "tone" jewelry, it causes allergic problems. Sterling silver is what I wear most often.

13. Please include anything else you feel is important that would help your Secret Santa know what you would like. I like to see where you're from, I enjoy modest art and textiles or something like a calendar with art from your area.

14. Remember that "negative hints" such as allergies might also be helpful. I'm allergic to coconut and the things it is used in like soaps, lotions, and creams (sodium laurelth sulfate, for example, is a coconut product.)

My Elf-Scouts are already hard at work trying to procure quality presents. I do think we'll. Have to rule out the Pokemon Plushies. One of my scout elves snick into a toy store to check them out, climbed on the shelf for a closer look and some little child grabbed him and wanted to buy him. He yelled "BOO!" and the child ran off crying to its mother while my elf quickly ran for cover and now wants nothing to do with plushies and applied for hazardous duty pay. Fret not, as other great goodies will come your way.

Well, to be honest with you, it's been a tough time here at the North Pole, or the bit of it where we are. There's been a nasty case of galloping hoof rot among some of the reindeer, and most of the two legged staff have been smitten with snuffles and sneezes and coughs and diseases. So there's been more of a delay than anticipated. However, fear not - the gifts have been wrapped and will soon be on their way. It's a bit of a trek, but you will have guessed that. The reindeer are visiting the reindeer equivalent of a chiropodist, or podiatrist, or whatever you might call a hoof specialist, but the elves have resorted to more conventional methods of delivery. And the main thing is that the package is on its way. Don't let this be an excuse to alter your exemplary conduct, mind you. It could always turn to ashes in transit....

Unfortunately, some of my elves were, shall we say, less than careful in the handling of said firearms and managed to shoot themselves in the foot. They have been reprimanded and the guns confiscated as Exhibit A in an Elf and Safety investigation.

Expect delivery via limping elf in time for the Big Day - or a few days after, subject to elfish foot.

Oh well. I'll just limp along with sawn-off shotguns. I live in The West, Santa, and by the Code Of The West* we have to do the "gunfight in the hot dusty street at high noon thing" every single day. In fact, the city has installed tumbleweeds, dust, wind machines, and heat lamps to we can do it in the winter too. Traffic doesn't stop though, and being hit by a bus while facin' down the villain just doesn't seem to be Old West. I wish the Old West Codifiers would change the Code -- the last time I was nearly hit by a garbage truck AND a beer truck (Coors Light, not even real beer).

It took some time, I hope not too much time, but the elves finally got their hindquarters back to headquarters. They're all present and accounted for, and all presents are accounted for, so you will be passed a present in the near future. It's loading time, and there will be a whole slew of selected stocking stuffers being stuck, stacked and slid slowly and solidly into the sleigh.

Until then, Your official Christmas Mantra is to repeat the previous sentence over and over real fast ten times in succession to help your stocking (maybe even overstocking?) booty safely soar skyward and Southward sooner.

I also heard Tony McManus sing your lovely "Icarus" a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the song.

Ah, yes. Jacqui. Jacqui Morse. Jacqui C. Morse. Wife of Captain Kendall Morse of Maine.

Well, your package is on its way via a special uninformed messenger. My messenger is easily recognisable by h/is/er bright red uniform, dual horns, and a trident (the poking thing, not the missile or the gum). A whiff of L'Aire d'Enfer accompanies the messenger.

At your desire, dear lady, I have sent you things that are reminiscent of my area: Dante's Inferno and the F?s Adamn?in. At your request I have also sent a genuine phaser pistol which you can use as you see fit.

There are other things which I think you will enjoy. They reflect the similarities between Maine and my own environs. But they will have to await your return to Maine as my thralls cannot understand the British postal codes.

Now I must away, as there are pressing temptations to tempt with.

O, inflammatory Kitten Of Christmas,

As you sit there purring by an open fire, know that your present will arrive a little late, but should be there by twelfth night. It turned out that your delivery elf spent a few nights in a drunk tank after he left here. It was a few days before we knew, but another elf has picked up the package and is in his way. Poor Elmer lost his 'elf control again and "fell off the sleigh", so we're leaving him there in the hoosegow for the holidays and we'll see if any further disciplinary action has to be taken once he's set free.

Don't worry, though. Your package should be well worth the wait. Maybe even in gold. I assure you that you'll have a much better Christmas than poor Elmer as he dries out. May YOUR turkey be warm. And may your spirits be bright

Santa Claus

He may have taken a wrong turn at Easter Island, however. All being well, your items should reach you by Old Christmas Eve.

While there was no name on the return address, and no card within the package, the exquisite craftsmanship of the lovely crocheted shawl leads me to conclude that my Santa was none other than the wise, warm and wonderful Jacqui Morse. That, and the discerning (not to say sneaky) discovery of a book I had been longing for and had put on my Amazon wish list in the faint fond hope that a family member would notice it (Alice Starmore's Book of Fair Isle Knitting!!). As a member of my beloved Mudcat family, Jacqui (I assume it was you, Jacqui?) came through.

Abundant and joyful thanks! And yes, we do plan to make Scarborough a stop on a future trip Up West!

Thank you so much for all your kind gifts - the lovely decoration, the fab music that can't wait to run through, your CD that I will be playing tomorrow and look forward to very much and what can I say a gorgeous native American flute which I have already got notes out of but have to be quiet until tomorrow as a bit late for playing now!

Now to Hollow Fox - so glad you liked the presents - I had to wait a while for the Taffy Thomas CD so really glad it got to you on time. Yes I did the Hola There Foxy - I didn't want you to guess too early that you had the same santa as last year so thought I'd pretend to be Spanish or South American just to confuse you!

Belated Happy Christmas and Best wishes for the New Year

We opened our gifts this evening, and my kids watched and wondered why I knew as soon as I saw the rock. Feldspar and muscovite, the kind that comes from a roadcut near Linn's house!

I needed a calendar, excellent timing, and one can never have too many beads for making jewelry. I'll look through the stack in the morning - I'm exhausted after a long day preparing for the family gathering this evening, but I wanted to register that my parcel did indeed arrive!

[It occurs to me that Linn has friends who might have gotten rocks from her, and are also nuts enough to send rocks through the mail . . . but I'm confident I've guessed correctly.]

Hell, if I'd known my present was coming by ship, I'd have made two Christmas Lists, one to starboard and one to port.

Yes, Anne Lister, it is indeed I, Hollowfox! As you guessed, Creature Comforts is the staff food area at Old Songs Folk Festival. There is absolutely no reason to remember our brief meeting when you performed there. The candies are maple sugar, as there are no maple trees in England to speak of, but plenty here in the northeast US and Canada. The book you hadn't seen is one I was turned on to when I was in college and just discovering traditional music as oppose to commercialized folk. The better known editions are titled Who Fears the Devil (by Manly Wade Wellman, for everybody else that's reading this), but your copy has a couple of extra stories in it that aren't usually collected. Today's high temperature is one degree F. And I thought it was cold the other day at 13. Stay warm.

My package was waiting for me upon my return from the UK, but circumstances delayed its opening for a couple of days and life has been unbelievably busy since them, leaving no time to check into the 'Cat to say thank you to Rap for the contents.

I am keeping the potato gum for when my grandson gets here in May - he is always going on about getting a gun and this would be one that his parents won't object to! I will try the fried dough out on Kendall at some point, although I will have to, maybe, have just a tiny piece as I am wheat intolerant and would suffer the consequences of too large a portion.

The jam was GOOD!

It's halfway through January, and I still haven't seen hide nor hair of a Santa, any elves or even a lovely shady lady in a boat. The air around me has finished ringing from those strumming their praises for Martin Luther King on instruments made by Martin, the Luthier King. I've dealt with both Santa and his wee folk on numerous previous occasions, and a mystery lady with a ship sounds intriguing but she would have to be present with her present to be passed in the immediate furure in person in order to be believed in. I suppose that having my Christmas present delivered by the Easter Bunny would make my year a bit more interesting than it's managed to be, thus far.

Hey, a package I sent to a Santee in Australia some years ago has yet to arrive and something was sent in its place by the administrator, so things DO happen but I still believe in you, Santa, I really do........

. Just keep the salt out of the drinking water No word yet. I got some CDs for the radio shows today and they should help me, if not kill the time, wound it so I can watch it twitch. But what should I do about the increasing wait gain?......

It's good to have a Salty Santa. None of this low-sodium stuff. Hell, I never heard anyone sing anything about, "Honey, won't you be my brackish dog"

Sleepy Santa's are nice ,too. I hope you're well rested, and that someday the present, too, can be wrested from the grip of whomever is holding it. Though, asking nicely should do. The problem seems to be in getting the package here rather than someone not wanting to give it up....

So, I'm here on the shore, shore 'nuff trying to flirt with some young maiden clutching half a ring and half wringing her hands over some lost or at least misplaced sailor boy to whom she's vowed to stay faithful to. Her name is Claudian Banks and she's into the Baroque and Tolkien, but that's as far as I've gotten as of yet, but She's here daily and I dream of asking her for a kiss and her saying, "Well what are you waiting for, Christmas?", and after a long embracce, I serenade her with an American song collected from one Lloyd Price but reset to an ancient tune from the UK,

"O, Lawdy, Lawdy, Miss Claudy,
You sure look good to me......"

.......and if Santa Claudy had truly come to town, I would not have to stand on some cold windswept coastal hill looking for my present and go off to tend to our future instead. But I, too, must stand vigil and hope that if nothing else, there's the makings of a Folk Song out of it all.....

And somehow, Santa, I STILL believe......

Excuse me for being thicker than flies on a carcass on a summer day, but there are hints being dropped all arounnd me of late, and I can't even catch them on the first bounce. The closest name I know on the Mudcat to a Caroline (A lovely name, by the way, shared by both a sister and a favorite aunt) is Sussex Carole, whose repertoire of songs tends to the salty, and the only mandolin player I know that would have to send things by boat would be Leadfingers. There's mention made of women who don't look their age, but I was taught as a gentleman many long years ago to never EVER tell a woman that they look their age if I should ever want yo talk to said lady again. 70s music can refer to a lot of artists and styles, a number of which I'm still fond of, seeing it as the "era of my ways", but some of which I never took to. "The waves" keep getting mentioned in quotes, but don't remember knowing any Catter women who were in the US Navy. Ca an "waves be the plural of waif, perhaps?......

Anyway,I,m still singing "Wait A Minute Mr. Postman" (but not its attempted sequel "Twistin' Postman ", which was a bit of a disappointment, to say the least. It still made it as filler on the Marvelettes' Greatest Hits album)....

HOORAY! HUZZAH!, A time of much rejoycified glee! My ship came in packed with goodies of all sorts including music, news, booklets about places I'd love to visit Morris Dancing, ship restoration and radio broadcasting, an explanation of all the clues that that had me totally confused and a wonderful hat that will come in handy in weather colder than a Republican's heart like we've been cursed with here of late. All in all, a wonderful surprise from a Mudcatter I had not been acquainted with previously..

It took some time and some switching of scenarios from elves to ladies in boats and broken token balladry, and after a slow start, some clues and exchanges with billybob, but the exchanges are part of the present itself, bringing extra fun and mystery.

I hope I was the last one and that it's all presents accounted for.

Thank you billybob. I'll report to you further when I have done some reading and listening.....

And I hope you'll listen to me by streaming WOWD-LP community radio from Takoma Park Maryland from time to time, as well. I'll PM you the times and where to stream us from. Having a long time interest in radio, though just a year and a half of actually being on it regularly, I especially appreciate the material on Pirate Radio.
