Here's what he says:

Here's why Mike Cross has not been traveling, performing or doing interviews:

Hello to all my friends at large in the world,

I would very much like to thank everyone who has written me, wished me well
and inquired about my whereabouts, what-abouts
    and as to when
I will be out and about
    once again.

Here's the brief: For a number of years (even longer than I was aware of)
I have been battling a tick borne infection.
My fine motor skills have been eroding,
my mind has been wrapped in a dense fog,
and my physical and mental energy have steadily declined.

I'm not complaining; I'm just explaining.
I've had to stay home and heal.

The medical rumor is that Rest, No Stress, Light Exercise and Good Nutrition
    combined with certain antibiotics
are the stepping stones which could lead me from where I am
to where I want to be. We'll see.

The good news is: I have recently begun to feel my health improving in every way.
I wake up some mornings and feel bursts of energy, coordination and clarity which tell me there may be a light at the end of this tunnel...

Hopefully, it's not just the headlight of an on coming train.

Meanwhile, I will continue to be thankful for the realization that this long layoff is giving me
a chance to view the world in slow motion and from a perspective where I can appreciate
all the good friends and good fortune with which I have been blessed.

Thank you for your kindness, your consideration and your interest.
I hope you'll forgive me for taking this lengthy sabbatical from the world.
I feel a little bit like a wounded creature who needs to hide away
until it feels healthy enough to reenter the fray.

I look forward to a day when I'll be able to travel and play music again.
And when that day comes i hope I'll get to see you there too.

    'Til then, here's wishing you..

All the best for happiness and success,
    Mike Cross

I wish him well.

And, for the record, "The Sick Note" (aka various titles inclduding "Why Paddy's Not at Work Today") was written by Pat Cooksey. Definitive lyrics are in this thread (click).
