A great lady is gone.

I so respected her for her dignity and bearing.
I'm sorry she has left us,
but what a welcome she must be receiving across the threshold.

After all, Mahalia Jackson herself mentored Della Reese.

On the hit parade radio, no less,
I recall hearing Della Reese, years ago,
sing a gospel song called "Troublemaker."

The lyrics were sharp and they drew blood.
I remember her delivery yet.
