Does anyone have the liner notes from   "The Rose Grew Round the Briar: Early American Rural Love Songs, Vol. 2"? Yazoo Records 2031, I believe.

If so: I am trying to find out the origin of the *recording* of Clayton McMichen singing "In the Pines" on that album - not of the song, but of the audio recording itself. Was this a field recording or a commercial recording? collected or made by whom and on what date?

I don't have the liner notes, but Mac recorded this for Columbia, 15 Apr 1930, Atlanta, mx 150219-3, released on Columbia 15590-D. It was released under his vocal alias, "Bob Nichols." (Country Music Records, p 569.)

I've got the CD, where the track is listed as 'Grave in the Pines'. But it doesn't give any more recording details, other than that the tracks are remastered from original 78s.
