Subject: RE: Obit: Jim Nabors (1930 - 2017) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Nov 17 - 10:16 PM He always came across as a genuinely nice guy. A co-worker and I were trying to figure out today when Nabors came out - it was widely known decades ago that he was gay, but he actually only said so and married a few years ago. I hope he and his partner were together and happy for most of the intervening years. He may not have said anything about it, but in the face of the open secret he kept working, he set an example that others could follow later. He also had a nice voice. It was certainly a surprise the first time Gomer opened his mouth, whenever that was (during my childhood). Maybe there's a video on YouTube of an early performance in Mayberry? |
