I'm looking for the words to Norland Winds, otherwise known as The Wild Geese. As far as I know, it is written by Jim Reid of Dundee, but the only recording I have is of a very good friend of mine, now dead, who used to sing this with me accompanying on flute. The Scots lyrics with his heavy Scots accent are difficult for me to decipher on the recording. Help!

This is like a maze for you....follow it and you have your prize.

There was a split discussion on this very song, under the topic "Wild Geese" so, follow this link: Wild Geese and THEN follow the link on that page to another discussion which has the words and chords.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Norland Wind is a poem by the Angus poet Violet Jacob (1863-1946). Jim Reid made a tune for it. The lyrics are in the Wild Geese thread gargoyle directed you to. I have a recording by Cilla Fisher & Artie Trezise on their album of the same name of 1979. It has been reissued on CD. - Susanne

The definative version of "Norland Wind" is by Battlefield Band, on their album "Rain, Hail, or Shine." Is this Jim Reid tune the same one they use? I always thought Alan Reid or Davy Steele wrote the music for it. Does anyone know?

Aside to gargoyle, and off the topic-sorry folks

Gee, gargoyle, did you make that nifty moving "Happy Holidays"? Pretty clever. Seems like you've got this html stuff down pat.

The tune used by The Battlefield Band is that by Jim Reid, who used the words by Violet Jacobs. It is all acknowledged on the "Rain, Hail or Shine" CD When I last saw The Batties approx 3 months ago I asked Davey Steel about the song and he told me how Jim Reid had given him it. Bev Lawton
