Subject: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: GUEST,Denis Heaney Date: 06 Dec 17 - 05:49 PM Sad news today with the passing of France's biggest rock star Johnny Hallyday who has died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 74. He sold about 100 million records and starred in a number of films in a career that began in 1960. I have followed him since the 1960's. His real name was Jean-Philippe Smet. His nickname was the "French Presley". He lived life to the full in every respect and I will recall a statement he made during an interview some years ago "My life passion is attractive young women with curvy figures, they have what I want and I have what they want, MONEY". R.I.P. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: keberoxu Date: 06 Dec 17 - 07:29 PM Wonder why I thought he was dead already? Maybe because he lived as long as he did. I recall an interview in which he was so very proud of his children and their families. A good soul in there. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: GUEST,Denis Heaney Date: 06 Dec 17 - 07:47 PM Indeed he was keberoxu, as most parents are. He had nine children to five ex wives and adopted another two during his last relationship. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: Jos Date: 07 Dec 17 - 02:56 AM A story recounted on Radio 4 this morning: He was in the Air France lounge waiting for a flight and steward brought him an ash tray, saying that no-one was allowed to smoke there - except Johnny Hallyday. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: Monique Date: 07 Dec 17 - 03:04 AM My! He had only four children, David born in 1966 to Sylvie Vartan and Laura in 1985 to Nathalie Baye, then two Vietnamese girls he adopted with his last wife Laetitia. He had 3 grand-children, David's children. Whether we loved him or not, a whole part of our lives have gone away with him. I can tell you that my teenage years have gone! |

Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: Tattie Bogle Date: 07 Dec 17 - 09:00 PM Probably first heard of him when everyone was also raving about Francoise Hardy: and maybe when I went to visit my French penfriend's family in 1962 and 1964, when he would have been the no 1 French pop artist. So I mistakenly thought then he was a lot older than he was: not actually much older than me! My days are numbered? |

Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: punkfolkrocker Date: 10 Dec 17 - 04:42 AM mine was sat on the sofa watching the news report on Johnny Hallyday's funeral procession through Paris; impressed by the size of the crowd, sad for all the crying elderly women, saying why don't we celebrate our music heroes like that... Though she is Welsh, and they probably will when Tom Jones expires... |

Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday 'France's Elvis' From: GUEST,Denis Heaney Date: 10 Dec 17 - 12:46 PM A very impressive turn out by the French nation for their favorite son. When you get a president and several ex presidents at your service, one could say you made it. I would have thought he would have been buried in Paris, but no, with a sense of humour to the end, his wish was to be buried in St Barts in the French West Indies as he said his bank accounts were there. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Johnny Hallyday - France's Elvis (1943-2017) From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 16 Jan 18 - 06:25 AM I was unaware Johnny had passed away. Many great memories of his music from my days at college. I was introduced to his music by a french girl who was in my year. I read recently about his love for "young girls with curvy figures" I don't think this is deservant of critism, if young women blessed with everything in the right places wished to enjoy a lifestle and he wished to enjoy their charms, so what ? Thanks for the memories. |
