Subject: RE: Easter 2018 - Folk Up the Moors From: Mr Happy Date: 27 Mar 18 - 06:56 PM From Leon Gierke, landlord of Sportsmans Arms: After 5 months of snow and rain the field doesn't look great! I've kept animals off it but the relentless weather has taken its toll! There is stone down on the entrances and people with 4x4s and tents are free to use the fields. At the moment I wouldn't advise anyone without a 4x4 or anyone with a heavy caravan to enter the field unless its dry for a good couple of days leading up to arrival. I say we sensibly pack the car park, the drive in front of the pub and use the layby 200 meters past the pub (many can fit there). I'm happy to open the field and also help tow caravans etc on and off the field if people want to. Be assured I've tried everything to get the field accessible and will continue to do so. Tonight I will be looking for temporary field mats to use so i will get back to you about that. A reminder to everyone coming to pack in as much as possible would be great. On a positive note......ive loads of really good cask ales in! |
Subject: RE: Easter 2018 - Folk Up the Moors From: Mr Happy Date: 23 Mar 18 - 03:45 PM During the gathering, there'll be chances to spot many famous but incognito mystery guests. Some of these include the elusive & rarely glimpsed a cappella ensemble; The Heartsouls, whose close harmony arrangements can be experienced in one of their special presentations of 'Our Sing About' - not to be missed! There'll also be fleeting sightings of the Myserichords performing some of their mad wriggles - a popular pastime amongst courting couples in the 15th century. You've never seen anything like it! In addition, darting about hither & thither, will be Mr Happy & the Gloom Band, ably demonstrating how traditional folksongs & tunes should be appropriately enacted, ie, no laughing or smiling nor any displays of enjoyment such as rhythmic swaying, giggles or titters - only kidding!! ;-) It's not long now [as the actress said to the bishop] I'll get me coat! Subject: RE: Easter 2018 - Folk Up the Moors From: Mr Happy Date: 04 Mar 18 - 04:59 PM Latest news from Leon Gierke, the landlord at The Sportsmans Arms Inn. The new gate for the camp field is in now, so although the entrance way will be as before, the exit will be via the new gate, situated downhill & onto the road. This should alleviate the difficulties experienced last year in getting vehicles & caravans off the site. Additionally, extra amounts of hardcore are being laid down to further aid traction. As Easter's earlier this year, it coincides with the lambing season. Consequently, we may not have full use of the barn. However, Leon tells me he has a plan to accommodate this contingency. Watch this space for further bulletins. |
