Swinton played Rugby League at Gig Lane for a while. Apropos of nothing at all. Of more interest, to Steve anyway, we have moved my Mum to a new and much better care home which takes us past his favourite coffee shop when we now visit. Back to football. The new care home is on a street facing the main gates of The Cliff!

I'm not feeling sore at all. A few of my posts ago I told you that the title race has been so amazing that, at the end of it all, neither club could possibly be described as "the loser" and that the winner would be football. That's how it's turned out. Kudos to the Citeh players, some of the best in the world, but no kudos to the club's owners and bankrollers, who also bankroll some very dodgy pursuits in the Arabian peninsula...

If you want to quote my past posts perhaps you would care to regurgitate the one where I said the first thing to do was to get rid of Pogba.

There is a lot wrong at Old Trafford, every thinking United supporter acknowledges that. It will take at least one full season to rebuild, possibly more.

However I know you're feeling sore tonight but for much of this season you have been telling us how Liverpool were going to win the Premiership.

Kitchens, heat and personal whereabouts come to mind.

A bit of tribalist bollox from Raggytash from five months ago. Keep hoping, pal. United, for all their money and their massive wage bill (remind me: how much did they pay Rooney, then Pogba, then Sanchez, among other three-legged carthorses...?) have been shite all season except for a few honeymoon matches for Ole. Icing on the cake was that they got smashed today by a relegated team, with their £95 million chappie starting a scrap that should have seen him getting sent off. There's been a sickness at the heart of Old Trafford dating back to before Fergie left. In contrast, just look at the sheer positivity at clubs like Palace, Wolves, Spurs, Newcastle and Liverpool. They've given us a terrific season. Ok, Citeh have been good to watch too, but they are seriously oil-tainted...

They might have seen the coach break down then k. Things started off with a Norwich FC decorated yellow one and finished off in a red tourist one.

Next season should be interesting. I've read they plan on sticking with an attacking approach to the game and keeping most of the current squad in tact without spending big money but how that (or I suppose any approach for a newly promoted side) will pan out remains to be seen.

Anyway,onto other things. Congrats to both Liverpool and Spurs. Both remarkable turnarounds/comebacks.

Well I've never forgiven Manchester United for beating Burnley 6-0 on 12th April 1961. Albert Quixall and Dennis Viollet both scored a hat-trick. And wasn't Maurice Setters a dirty bugger. That was the only time I ever went to Old Trafford. I'm still bitter.

a shame, i reckon -ajax have been great to watch this year - all ruined by a second half when they couldn't hold their nerve. crowd singing 'don't worry about a thing...every little thing gonna be alright....' after half time seems cruel now. spurs? never liked them since they beat city 4-1 in an fa cup quarter-final (maybe 25 years ago?)and steve sedgeley did a really annoying goal celebration. i really hope liverpool make them pay for that.

If they both draw or both lose, Citeh are the champions.

If Liverpool draw and Citeh lose, Citeh would still end up champions unless they've imploded and been beaten by a shedload of goals.

The Mancs have got a much easier game, in theory. But who knows!

i had a great day out watching the jags win in dumfries and loved everything about the game. though my daughter (celtic supporter) tells me i am wasting my time watching football at that level, i don't agree. i was in the pub last night with a couple of liverpool fans and a few amazed and impressed supporters of other teams. it's (just!) the same beautiful game and proper football fans from all over the world can share it in a spirit of respect, friendship, humour, beer and all our great little idiosyncracies and superstitions.

So it's all down to the last match of the season and anything could happen on the day.

I don't expect Wolves to give Liverpool any favours and they can be a very good attacking side.

By the same token I don't expect Brighton to lie down, roll over and play dead when City get down there.

partick is an area of glasgow where we used to play about 100 years ago. we then moved to maryhill but kept the name (we like to sing 'maryhill is wonderful...') Jags are what you get if you sit on a thistle. We are also known as the Harry Wraggs but i don't know why. a lot of people (including billy connolly) think our real name is Partick Thistle 0. we are also 'the only team in glasgow' though this may be disputed. according to the jag's supporters yesterday we are 'by far the greatest team the world has ever seen' - obviously there is no dispute about that. hope this clears it up for you.....

and the Jags.....after half a season in the relegation places we went to Dumfries for a crunch game with Queen of the South yesterday. it was a lovely day, met loads of friendly people and watched thistle cruise to the easiest win of the season - great fun and instead of facing the play-offs for relegation we finish the season 6th in the league. proving yet again - guilt and worry are useless emotions.

the only dark cloud being that it's such a long time til next season.....

I watched the game and found myself cheering away for Liverpool. They played extremely well but as Steve said , Messi was in the right place and at the right time. He's a little magician, very difficult to mark and explosive when he gets near the ball.

Liverpool tried all they knew to at least get that important away goal but the luck and an impressive Barca defence held them off.

It will be a hard night for them to recover but hey....anything is possible .

I was impressed by Joe Gomez's return from a long absence through injury. He is a very good player and will give Liverpool a new perspective when he reaches full fitness.

As for the other semi, spurs will need to be at their best. Ajax are a very good team,

Have a good time in Italy Steve. I will be in North Wales for the week
But I will be watching both games.

I'd fancy Liverpool to beat anyone by four at Anfield, but that won't do as they have to stop Messi from scoring even one. I think that probably up to the age of around 15, I’d have said football was the best game but my interest waned. I probably hated rugby at 15 but there was a long later spell where I’d at least watch all the 5/6 nations I could as well as the World cups (and never did but at one time really fancied going to Lansdowne Road for a Guiness assisted Ireland Wales, I felt the atmosphere would be great…).. It seems ages since I saw any on tv but I thought Aussie Rules a fast and exciting game when I have watched it.

All to difficult to tell with someone who looking back now has wavered a lot and is sometimes (with exceptions such as at least keeping an eye on Norwich) not specially in love with any…

But I would say the most intriguing of sports is test cricket. Not when you get slaughters (although I started watching with the Clive Lloyd sides) but say Ashes 2005 where things are tight and there can be so many twists and turns. Shame none is on free to view these days.

I did say FIELD sport MikeL, don't know if you've ever watched any Hurling but it is fast, furious and very, very skillful.

The players are all amateurs (they may get boot money) but put every ounce of effort into playing the game. It is rough, brutal at times, and a joy to watch.

** For our American cousins 'boot money' are monies left in players shoe's to cover expenses and not acknowledged by any authorities or the players themselves.

Right... I am just about ready to watch Liverpool play Barcelona in the first leg of the Euro Champion's League.

I am expecting a hugely entertaining match with two of the top three teams in the World.

I am looking to Liverpool to beat Barcelona or at least score an away goal to bring back as an advantage in the second leg.
