The thread title refers to a sport that is completely different to the US game. As ever, you simply don't understand. This is a thread in which you are extremely unlikely to be able to make a sensible contribution. But, as it's a free country, be my guest.

The major teams in England are owned by Americans who have seen the business of Soccer as a massive profit opportunity. Americans now own 50% of current English Premier League Teams which include: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester United, and West Ham. So the thread title is only half true.

Norwich City beat Coventry last Saturday, and now we're top, and if this continues we might go 'up' again at the end of the season.
Husband proudly paraded in his Canaries strip in Morrisons at Riverside (beside Carrow Road football stadium) and so many people gave him the thumbs up. He kept calling out "Come on you Yellows!" to them in a strong French accent with a big grin. (We meet up every weekend to go shopping.) His entire family of brothers/cousins plus friends have been wearing their Norwich City strips in celebration in Abidjan! (He took a huge quantity out there a few years ago that he bought on a special offer from the Canaries shop in Norwich.)

The magic of the Cup

As red cards go, they don't come any stranger - but sometimes nature calls.

In what might be an FA Cup first, a goalkeeper was sent off for "urinating in a hedge" during a match.

The keeper in question is Connor Maseko of Hampshire side Blackfield & Langley FC, who play in the ninth-tier Wessex League.

The incident occurred in the 76th minute of their 0-0 draw with Somerset side Shepton Mallet FC in Saturday's FA Cup first qualifying round tie.

"The ball went out for a goal kick," Blackfield & Langley FC co-manager Conor McCarthy told BBC Sport.

"He needed to go to the toilet so he went up against a hedge and their players started shouting saying 'what's he doing?' to the ref. The ref went up to him and decided to send him off.

"He (Maseko) protected himself. He was inside the hedge. Sometimes when you have to go you have to go.

"I was gobsmacked. I didn't expect that [sending-off].

"We're all pretty shocked by the decision."

At the time, a post on Shepton's Twitter account said: "Blackfield keeper is sent off for urinating in the hedge! Never seen it before."

The game will be replayed and Blackfield tweeted: "See you Tuesday evening (hopefully get plenty of toilet breaks en route)."

Shepton, tweeting about the the replay of 'urinate gate', added: "After an unusual red card in the first tie (possibly a first), we are looking for a match sponsor. Plumbers or portaloo companies, take advantage!"

My husband mentioned Liverpool's win over Bournemouth 9 - 0 while we were walking around Sheringham yesterday. (We do meet up sometimes). He described it as "un grand massacre!" and thought it was very funny.

I went to see Bradford City play Crewe Alexandra yesterday and it was really good. Sadly a nil/nil draw and not the goal fest that Liverpool achieved but exciting all the same. I may become a Bantams supporter!

Out in Norwich with my errant husband on Saturday, I bought him an England football shirt in the Nike shop to cheer him up. Norwich City FC were playing Wigan Althletic at Carrow Road nearby. (Drew 1 - 1) The roars from the supporters in the Barclay stand were deafening.

Ah! I can well remember as a small child taking down the scores off the radio so that my dad could check his football pools later. (He did Fixed Odds to a 'system' of his own devising and on balance made a small profit. He stopped doing it when they started taxing it, which made it uneconomic).

Great footie weekend! First, and delectably, Liverpool showed Man City how to perform superbly with well-integrated new players. Darwin Nunez came on as a sub and was devastating. On the other hand, the much-vaunted Haaland for Citeh was anonymous for the whole game and missed an absolute sitter. And tomorrow we have the womens' Euro final. Woohoo!

I've been watching the England games too (God, my wife thinks I'm sad!).

Yes Spain were good, but I was disappointed by their ready recourse to the 'dark arts', taking advantage of lenient refereeing to commit gratuitous fouls, cutting out potential attacks and generally breaking up play. (Something the Brazil men's team are very good at.)

The other games I've seen have been reasonably free of that sort of stuff.

Along with nine million others, I watched the Euro '22 quarter-final between England and Spain. It was a wonderful match with both teams revealing strengths and weaknesses. Overall, Spain were unlucky to lose, I thought, and it was sad to see them eliminated. They were a far better watch than the English team. I shall definitely be watching the semi-final and final.

Anyways, we beat the Saints tonight even with a second-string team, which means that the Premier League goes down to the wire on Sunday afternoon. Liverpool beat Wolves and Manky Citeh only manage a draw (or lose), and the title is ours. What a comeback after being 14 points down in January. Let it be!

It was a very hard, closely run game, and I never like it when it ends with penalty kicks - a bit too random. But it was indeed a cliffhanger and very entertaining.

Well that was a gritty game, not a classic by any means, but plenty seat of pants stuff. It was a pity that someone had to lose. Both teams have played sixty-plus matches this season and, well, the energy levels nosedived as the game went on. But when the guys get tired and start to make mistakes, the entertainment increases! Almost literally gladiatorial!

I think both sides have done the FA Cup a massive favour. It's been a bit of a Cinderella for a few years but I think they've resurrected it today. But sod all that. Liverpool won it and I'm over the moon, 'arry!

What is not meaningful about the FA cup, the oldest and we are lead to believe the most prestigious knock-out trophy in the whole of the football world. Won by many great teams over the 151 years it has been in existence.
