Subject: Ten years on From: GUEST,I Don't Know Date: 21 Jan 18 - 11:23 AM It will be ten years on 7th February since John Wright passed, We asa family still play at least one album a week & miss the pleasure of seeing & hearing this wonderful singer. Memories of him singing early one January morning in our garden & helping our daughter with information for her GCSE music project as well as all the singer/songwriters he introduced us to will always be with us. My Barbra & the family celebrate is memory knowing the wider John Wright family is still thinking of them all. |

Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: rich-joy Date: 22 Jan 18 - 05:58 PM Indeed! There are some beautiful song clips on YouTube, my faves perhaps being : Hold On Down Too Deep Family You'll Never Be the Sun Queen of Argyle Dumbarton's Drums But there's oh so many : a Singer's Singer and a really fabulous Band. Also this 51 min documentary, which my coffee break will be spent experiencing today! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea2GwQHBjcY I had managed to get a couple of his recordings way back when, but I sure wish I'd had the chance to see this beautiful man live. ENJOY! Rich-Joy Down Under |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: GUEST,gecko Date: 22 Jan 18 - 08:31 PM He was a marvelous interpreter of songs and I have so many favourites it'd take too long to list them. Saw him several times when we were in the UK and on one memorable occasion I saw him in a pub session with Mundy and Turner at the Stonehaven festival near Aberdeen around 2003. Wonderful memories - much like some of my memories of you and dear old Lawls! YIU janet # Cairns aka gecko |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 22 Jan 18 - 08:38 PM Saw him many times over the years: and earlier albums are on cassette! He had a knack of picking good songs that suited his style, and also having some great musicians in his band, Kenny Speirs, Stuart McHardy, Pete Abbott and others, who have to some extent carried on his music in their own way, as well as being very successful in their own right. |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: rich-joy Date: 22 Jan 18 - 10:01 PM Thanks Gecko! 45 months since his passing, yet I still have moments of "expecting" him to walk in the door :( He filled the room when alive and I think still does from t'other side. John Wright probably does the same! R-J |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Jan 18 - 11:05 PM Pease note that we have obituary threads for two John Wrights. One died in 2008, and the other in 2013. Which one led the John Wright Band? Those who knew them, could you tell us about each of them? It appears that both of them were well-loved. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: rich-joy Date: 23 Jan 18 - 03:03 AM True! Though this is perhaps best left to folks more knowledgeable than me, BUT! I can say that THIS John Wright : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd433MSORWs who performed with Catherine Perrier, is not the subject of this thread nor of the "John Wright Band"!! :) |

Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Gallus Moll Date: 23 Jan 18 - 07:59 PM I can't believe it is ten years since we lost him, an amazingly talented and sensitive singer, every song carefully chosen and sensitively shared. We were so privileged to have known him, heard him and the band. Sorely missed. |

Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: GUEST,Lin Date: 07 Oct 20 - 02:03 AM I just recently came to know of the music of John Wright. I live in California and somehow he is one performer who I was not familiar with before. After listening to many of his videos on Youtube, I was blown away with the incredible talent of this man. What an amazing voice; just such a great performer! I had read on some sites from newspaper articles in UK, (announcing his death in 20008), that he "died suddenly." Only 60 years old at the time of his death. Were there any reports that came out later, that gave any further information as to what might have happened or what caused his sudden death? I would be interested in trying to purchase any CD's that might be available but don't know how easy to buy them anywhere in U.S.A. |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Gallus Moll Date: 07 Oct 20 - 10:10 AM Guest Lin, I was able to purchase some of the cds I was missing from John's widow a year or two ago. If you search for the website ,(sorry I can't give you details at the moment, but shall when I get to.pc if no-one else does so meantime). There were certainly some still available then? Barbara posted them to me. He was an amazing performer, chose really wonderful sings and delivered them from the depths of his soul. Still greatly missed. |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Gallus Moll Date: 07 Oct 20 - 04:22 PM Hi again Lin, I have emailed John's widow to find out best way for you to make contact with her. (Don't want to put her email in open forum!) I bought cds from her in April, paid a little extra for postage. I am sure she will still have some left? Good luck. |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: GUEST,Lin Date: 07 Oct 20 - 05:00 PM Hi Gallus Moll, Thanks for your reply. I will look for your posts regarding how to make contact to order CD'S. Are you in USA as well? Thank you, Lin |
Subject: RE: Ten years on - John Wright (died 2008) From: Gallus Moll Date: 08 Oct 20 - 08:42 AM Hi again (from Scotland!) Lin - I checked with Barbara and she is ok for me to share her email(which is how l bought mine): barbarawright22@googlemail.com (I told her you were in USA so she can check postage cost) If you email her she can let you know what cds and dvds are available. I believe they are now all at reduced prices..... don't hang about in case others have read this post!!) You can also google John Wright Band (if you do his name alone there are too many!!) to have a look at him, the band, history, albums, memorial concert etc. It is also worth checking youtube? And a general internet search will take you to other providers of albums eg greentrax (not necessarily at reduced prices, tho maybe there will be some Barbara does not have?) |
