Subject: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 08 Feb 18 - 08:49 AM Glad4Trad folk sessions - an invitation from Nick Dow and Sue Burgess Come celebrate traditional folk song and music with us on the second Tuesday of every month, starting with our launch event on 13th February. Our venue is The Stubbing Wharf pub at Hebden Bridge, justly popular for its excellent beer and food. Website: stubbing.co.uk There'll be splendid songs, sung in the old-fashioned, unamplified way by the likes of Nick Dow, Sue Burgess, Mary Humphreys & Anahata. If you are also a singer/player of traditional folk song/music, you'll be most welcome to perform some of your own repertoire, and the informal atmosphere means that we should be able to chat about the material over a glass or two. We shall be in the function room upstairs, which has very good acoustics, from 8pm prompt to 10.30pm. But do turn up much earlier if you'd like to eat in the restaurant area below, or to have a natter first. Make a note in your diary: LAUNCH EVENT 8pm on Tuesday 13th February at Stubbing Wharf - we'll be Glad4Trad to see you! Future dates: So that we can keep you informed of future dates or any changes, please let us have your contact details. Email Nick Dow: thetraditionbearer@hotmail.co.uk OR Sue Burgess: glad4trad@zen.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: CupOfTea Date: 09 Feb 18 - 10:36 AM I was so surprised to see this and find out it was not about the Glad4Trad radio show. Judy and Dennis Cook, along with another Oberlin resident, Doug McClennan, have a weekly one hour show on the Oberlin college station. Each show revolves around one theme or word, and the range of folk they play is extensive, presented with, as Judy says "mild erudition." For those not by a radio in Oberlin on a Wednesday afternoon, the show is posted on Judy's website (judycook.net) on "Play Archives" each week. I've downloaded most of them, week by week as mp3s, as there is but the one current show available. Most worth checking out. Joanne in Cleveland |

Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: RTim Date: 09 Feb 18 - 09:51 PM Hey you guys - I so wish I could get to one of these sessions if ever I find myself in the more northern climes than my usual stamping southern grounds when I come over to the UK again.....I met Sue Burgess for thew first time last year at Sidmouth - and her combined with Nick will certainly be something to see and hear - plus Mary & Anahata.......makes me wish I lived back in England again - I can see Judy and Denis any old time (but still love them!!) Best to all - Tim Radford |

Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: CupOfTea Date: 22 Feb 18 - 09:55 AM After mentioning this to Judy Cook, she informed me that the radio show name came FROM this session, and that she'd asked if it was ok for her to use the name. This further increases my envy of Judy and Dennis' yearly tours of singing in England. They're on their way in a couple weeks & I'm sure a good time will be had by all. I am delighted that we get the Cooks to sing and play and dance with most of the rest of the year, but would love the chance to be at any of the singing sessions I hear about all over England. It is much harder to come by in the US. Joanne in Cleveland (and Oberlin on Sundays) |
Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: MoorleyMan Date: 22 Feb 18 - 03:36 PM Any correspondents to this thread are very welcome to attend our Just Voices singers' session at Hunslet, Leeds, UK, which takes place on the final Tuesday of each month (see separate thread). Unlike your Glad4Trad though, Just Voices is just that - an instrument-free session, and any type of song is encouraged (it doesn't have to be exclusively traditional), the principle being that a good song is worth the singing... We're privileged to count Nick Dow as a regular supporter of Just Voices. |
Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: treewind Date: 22 Feb 18 - 05:17 PM The first Glad4Trad evening was pronounced a success and we'll be continuing with the next one on March 13th. Anahata |
Subject: RE: Glad4Trad Folk Sessions 13th Feb From: MoorleyMan Date: 23 Feb 18 - 12:49 PM Good to hear that, Anahata, but unfortunately I'm unable to be there as I've another regular commitment on virtually all the upcoming "second-Tuesdays". |
