Subject: Any Shanty groups fancy going this song? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 13 Feb 18 - 01:21 AM I adapted this song from a John Masefield poem about Long John Silver several years ago. The John Masefield estate gave me permission to do it and it appeared on a charity album to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Although I've loved Treasure Island all my life - its a song I'm not really confident of being able to communicate to an audience. So no one much has heard the song. The recent popularity of shanty groups has made realise - heres something maybe their audiences would like. A shanty group would certainly give it a lustier dimension than my weedy guitar accompaniment. https://soundcloud.com/denise_whittle/john-silver |

Subject: RE: Any Shanty groups fancy going this song? From: Big Al Whittle Date: 13 Feb 18 - 02:43 PM well yes i realise that. however most people love Treasure Island. And the name of the game is entertaining the people in front of you. I think the words of the guy who was the poet laureate when i was a kid might be of interest to the generation of reasonably cultured people one might expect to turn up at a concert given by a shanty group. anyway....its not compulsory. just an idea. |
