This is my transcription from Spotify. There are a few words I'm not sure of, so corrections would be welcome.

DRINKING BUDDY
Words and music by Claudia Schmidt
As recorded by Claudia Schmidt on "Claudia Schmidt" (1979)

1. I've got a spirit that likes to keep moving; I'm wont to pack up and go roam.
You're not a trav'ler but it brings me such peace to know you'll be there when I come home.
You've got a spirit that travels in dreams, and sometimes you dream about me.
I know, 'cause I've heard your laughter in the wind rushing by, taking you places I'll never see.

CHORUS: You are my drinking buddy and you are my solid friend.
I've known you for nigh on three years but I needed you long before then.
You may not always be here to touch, but these thoughts of you comfort and mend.
Oh, I love the drinking buddy and I need the solid friend.

2. Sometimes I've forgotten to turn out my light and I've burned myself weary and blind,
And it's you that's led me to a quiet safe place and helped me to see my own mind.
When I've cried without knowing why, you've reached in the well of my tears
And brought out the bucket with my drowning dreams and your sunshine dried all my wet fears.

3. I'm not a hustler but sometimes I move fast and forget time is mine to control.
Things get me rushing and I wind up so tight that the pressure pains my very soul.
Then you come calling with your country ways and wine and I fall back, relax, and smile,
So you stay till I'm quiet and time(?) can't deny it and crawls off to sleep for awhile.

4. The song of our friendship starts in full and sweet and the years of love add to each line.
We have found a harmony as warm as our bottles of wine.
Holding hands and singing the old songs, well, that's fine, and I hope it won't end,
But we're learning to sing our own songs now to each other and to our new friends.

LAST CHORUS: You are my singing buddy and you are my solid friend.
I've known you for nigh on three years but I needed you long before then.
You may not always be here to touch, but these thoughts of you comfort and mend,
Oh, they do, well, I love the singing buddy and I need the solid friend.
Yes, I love the drinking buddy and I need the solid friend.
I love the drinking, singing buddy and I need, I need the solid friend.

[There is also this old video wherein Claudia sings "two years," not three, so I assume it was made around 1978. She also sings this short intro which is not on the record:]

The sun on the lake shines like your own eyes, and the light is clear and strong,
But I swear it does not shine so bright, nor is it remembered as long.
