Subject: French... No apologies offered... From: Mick Lowe Date: 09 Mar 18 - 09:24 PM Way back when I was running Prof's Pages I cam into contact with an American lady called Michelle who liked to grow irises (if that's the plural) she happened to marry a French guy who I am ashamed I can't remember his name and lived in France. Michelle played the dulcimer and her husband was a BRILLIANT guitar player.. I know I ramble (that's what I do)we swapped tapes etc and she introduced me to Malicorne (that's a group)seriously find them on you tube or whatever.... Then years later watching Celtic Connections (there's a whole thread by morons slagging this off), I saw the French Canadian band Le Vent du Nord playing... there are exceptional. You don't need to understand the words, the voice just becomes another instrument, but if you can check these guys on faceache, a guy playing the fiddle, singing and doing the "Quebec two step" is pretty amazing. |

Subject: RE: French... No apologies offered... From: G-Force Date: 10 Mar 18 - 05:07 AM Ah, yes, Malicorne. I've got their 'Best of ...' on an old vinyl album. As is the tendency with chronological retrospectives, side 1 is utterly brilliant, side 2 sounds like sub-Abba Euro-pop. |
Subject: RE: French... No apologies offered... From: DaveRo Date: 10 Mar 18 - 05:39 AM Malicorne seem to have done another final concert in Brittany in 2017: http://bruno.cornen.pagesperso-orange.fr/malicorne_presentation.htm I last saw Gabriel Yacoub at EFDSS some years back. He was excellent, but there were very few people there - it was embarassing. I like his album 'Bel' best. |
