Subject: BS: Yellow Snow From: Mr Red Date: 16 Mar 18 - 03:17 AM the UK has to prepare for a mini Beast from the East this weekend. And the snow will be yellow. Do not eat. Is Putin really pissing on us? Again! |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Senoufou Date: 16 Mar 18 - 04:11 AM Ha Mr Red, you had me there for a minute! There are indeed 'Yellow Snow Warnings' for UK. I'd rather have Amber Snow, rather pretty. Fed up with these Beasts from the Easts. Brown snow is worse than yellow by the way. NEVER eat that!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Jos Date: 16 Mar 18 - 04:31 AM As a child I was told it was good luck if you could add some snow to the batter on pancake day (though not yellow - or brown - snow, obviously). It only happened rarely, and I expect that rather than bringing luck, the snow just brought a light, airiness to the pancakes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Mr Red Date: 16 Mar 18 - 04:56 AM pancakes are yellow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Jos Date: 16 Mar 18 - 05:54 AM Pancakes are yellow because of the egg, not the snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Steve Shaw Date: 16 Mar 18 - 06:18 AM The alga Chlamydomonas nivalis thrives in freezing conditions and, en masse, can turn snow pink or red, leading to the phenomenon called watermelon snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Mar 18 - 09:22 AM Frank Zappa had something to say about that kind of situation:Good luck, folks! -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Mr Red Date: 18 Mar 18 - 07:35 AM No yellow snow in Gloucestershire today. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Senoufou Date: 18 Mar 18 - 08:01 AM More of the blasted stuff here in Norfolk! It's not too deep, but we'd thought that was the end last week. This is only a baby Beast From The East, so it can toddle off sharpish. The poor birds, they look absolutely frozen and dejected. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 18 Mar 18 - 05:19 PM Well the drifts from this one are more inconveniently placed than the last lot. I'm having to dig away twice as much! Must be a subtly different wind direction as the deposits are now diagonal across the track rather than perpendicular to it. The depth is a bit greater as well. Hoping to be dug out by Tuesday. Robin |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Senoufou Date: 18 Mar 18 - 05:28 PM Happy digging Robin! You could have a bit of fun making a snowman to cheer yourself up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Steve Shaw Date: 18 Mar 18 - 05:35 PM It's bloody bad here in Cornwall. We had a ton of snow overnight, a temporary thaw, then another deluge this afternoon that's still going on at 9pm. It's all very pretty and I do have milk and spuds. We've lived in this house, half a mile inland from Widemouth Bay, for 31 years and we've seen snow covering the grass just four times. Thing is, two of those four times have been in March 2018! |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: EBarnacle Date: 18 Mar 18 - 11:06 PM We're expecting another Noreaster this week. More snow on the way. |
Subject: RE: BS: Yellow Snow From: Acorn4 Date: 19 Mar 18 - 04:50 AM Yellow snow? Well there are a lot of dog walkers these days. |
