MMario, I'm not taking the "northwest passage" - I'm going through NY. I'm down in the bottom of NH, so it appears quicker that way. I'm not going to enjoy driving that far, but I'm really looking forward to being there.

...and I'm really wishing I had one of those minidisc thingies.

Duckboots' e-mail address rescued and turned into a clicky (I hope): e-mail Duckboots

so you'll be driving out the thruway, eh? It's not too bad a trip. I've done toronto round trip in a day with 9 hours of Ren-faire between the two legs (and a movie shoot the next morning....), so though you'll be coming from further, at least you won't be turning right around and driving back.....

Thanks Jeri. I guess Mrs. Smartypants doesn't know her blue clickies yet.
Actually, any catters in Ontario who are close enough to drive in to the Tranzac are greatly welcome. It's at the corner of Brunswick and Bloor. What Jeri doesn't know yet is that we're going to ask her to play a couple of tunes on the radio earlier that night. Don't tell her.

I'm so jealous! Well, now that I've telephone himself in Toronto and talked to him, does that make me sort of an unofficial Toronto mudcatter?

BTW, Rick ... talked to Stan Jay today and a case would have to be built for my B-25, however, instead, I'm going to buy a Union Blue Gig Bag, which he says will fit in the overhead and I can carry it over my shoulder. At a little less than 5 feet tall, it's a good thing I don't have a big, huge guitar! Thanks for the hookup on mandoweb.com

I am so envious of you guys, I was in Toronto in August just past visiting my in-laws who live in Scarborough, before I joined this happy band of Brethern and Sistern and the ONLY live music I heard was at some place called "the Jester" I think, and it made punk sound intellectual. It was all this ambient stuff, you know like taping a tea tray dropped down a staircase and looping the tape for 10 minutes. Dreadful, but my Bro-in-law likes it. Long live "Growers Cider" and look out for next time we visit. BTW the previous visit was during Mariposa and who was on Martin Carthy.

I'm a Toronto Mudcateer in my heart of hearts. So I guess on that level I'll be with you in spirit. Which sort of sucks here on the physical plane, but ... oh, well.

Please take photos and post them so we can all join the fun, vicariously, as most of my fun these days is wont to be.

BTW, Alice and I met last week in Montana and her son Ryan took photos of us. So, if those came out, we'll put them up on the album as well.

Lift a toast in our names. Or name a toast in our lifts. Or ... Oh, whatever. Have fun.

Hmmm ...

Might one intrude if one is from the opposite side of the city from Scar-beria?

Depending on when I get back from Kingston, I got a fair shot at being able to drop by. Onliest question is: should I bring the Glen Reid bass, or the utterly weird and comical-looking (particularly when I'm wearing it) Ashbory bass?

I will be with you in spirit. BTW do you know a pub called "the royal oak" I think, it has about 200 single malt whiskys!!!!!! I will check the name later.

Okay Torontonians, my curiosity had been peeked, where is The Jester and what's it all about.

I don't know the Royal Oak, but The Academy of Spherical Arts was listed as having the largest selection of Single Malts in Toronto, I've even sampled a few there. It's a very upscale pool hall with antique tables and furniture, lots of art by Toronto artists and great music, usually old Jazz and Blues, super atmosphere. I try to get there whenever I'm in Toronto, and I'm not really a pool player. Has anyone else been there?

We're spending Sunday praying for your soul, Spaw. We are going to start early with penitential prayer, warm up with orisons to the Blessed Virgin, crawl on our knees up several flights of stairs (at the Filtration Plant which is a bit like the St. Joseph's Oratory for Toronto), flagellate wading birds, wail, make offerings to the 8 gods in the 12 directions, and generally plead for you, without expectation but just as a kind of seasonal thing, you know. That should make for a full Boxing Day, and then we intend to boogie.
yours, Peter T.

Attention Mudcatters around the world. Let it be known that the esteemed "Jeri" (of Jeri fame) has landed (well she drove actually) in good old Toronto! Not before seeing parts of Pickering (where we have a very active nuclear plant) and other superfluous burbs. Apparently this has happened before as once while trying to reach New York she ended up in Oslo, Norway. I will now turn this post over to herself. Take it away Jeri.

Well, I followed Ricks directions to the letter "Come to Canada, then to Toronto and we're somewhere real close to the middle of the city. In a house." And then I plead for help into his answering machine (for crying out loud) and some guy I meet in a bowling alley says I can follow him home, and...well, I got here. I drove backwards halfway through the city, but I probably would have found his place faster if I'd done the whole city backwards. I am EXTREMELY glad to be here!!!

Rick here again folks. What Jeri has not mentioned was that everyone in the bowling alley was named "Reg"!
Anyway she says hello to all, and we're very glad she's arrived safely. Let the games begin!

Rick

Hi Jeri, Welcome to our fair city. No one is at home today because we are all out shopping or whining. We have talked to the Weather Service, who don't seem to be able to provide weather on demand like snow, so what kind of service is that, I ask you? If you go northwest of where you are you will eventually hit deer, which will not be a pretty sight. Also remember that Kingston Road is not the main street of Toronto, in spite of what Rick may tell you. The main street is something called Blue Jay Way and is right downtown. Also remember that if anyone asks you where you are staying, the neighbourhood is known as Upper Beach or Ricktown. I gather you will not be around for Y2K, so you will miss the rush away from Pickering Nuclear Power Station on New Year's Eve, but you obviously got some of that kind of sightseeing in already. That about covers it. Look forward to seeing you Monday! yours, Peter T.

Very much looking forward to meeting you.
I've been living here for years, and I do believe Rick and Heather live 'in the Heart' of the city.
You should have seen the cleaning that was going on before you came. I got to my lesson early Thursday afternoon, only to find Rick in his house dress madly brushing around the feather duster. Or was it Heather's house dress?
Anyway, have some hot apple cider tonight. It is awfully cold out there.
BB

Well, I was home, Spaw, so I got to have a great visit with Jeri while Rick carried on in the background. First I heard him talking to me with Jeri on pennywhistle in the background. I could've listened to that all night, then Jeri got on the phone and Rick started in on first the pennywhistle, then, be still my heart, he got down a psaltry, tuned as we spoke, then played. What a beautiful instrument, played superbly, of course. Rick came back on to say goodnight and I thought he was still playing the psaltry until he told me it was Jeri I heard! He said she's got music in her gut; give her an instrument and she will play it beautifully! Did I mention that my skintone is now a lovely shade of envious green!?

Ya'll enjoy Monday night, it's gonna be a treat!

black walnut, sorry to hear you've been sick. My husband has been home all week with godawful flu, the doctor asked "Do you feel like you've been hit by a Mack truck? Get back to bed you idiot." So the family christmas has substituted a husband and father for something resembling a pack-a-day wraith looking for a scrooge.

Rick et al. Seems like you've got the makings of a great party, enjoy it to the full, but you don't need anyone to tell you do that. (But have you got snow? nyahh nyahh, honest I'm not remotely envious)

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Rick, if you are trying to make me envious...you have. However.I'm going to compensate by spending 2 months in Florida, wher I am going to meet and make music with Moonchild and Harpgirl. Maybe even Paul. so there

Christmas was such a pleasure at Ricks. And I was so happy to be able to spend time with Jeri.
Rick & Heather's home was filled with warmth and laughter. They put on a Dickens' Christmas feast that would have impressed my late Jewish grandmother (Bubby) who lived to cook for others. We took turns trying to read the Christmas Carol which was a hoot because most of it became a joke.
Thank god I was on Rick's team for the Christmas trivial game. He is the Trivial King. Of course we won. I played my banjo along with Jeri on the violin, and Rick, Marci, Tony Q and Mose on quitars. That was a real treat.
Thank you very much Rick & Heather for such a wonderful evening. Being able to share Christmas with you guys, Jeri and the others is the greatest Christmas gift I could have received.
Love Bonnie

I still have some champagne left over, so I'll lift a toast in your honor at some approximate time...

Thinking of ya'll,

OK, I'm green, VERY VERY green. In my favorite city, making music, eating, drinking, and I CAN'T get there (If I'd checked this thread a few days ago, I might have closed the dratted Kitchen and made a dash for it) Jerri, if you come back by the northern route, let me know. Have Fiddle, can harmonize.

have a blast, and please do it again when I can be irresponsible.

I've been off the air for a while, dealing with the usual Christmas frenzy, plus attending my sister-in-law's funeral in New Brunswick, and the funeral of a long time fan of the folk scene.

In addition to that, we had our annual Boxing day party and played and sang well into the night. Glad you were able to be with us, Rick. I'm looking forward to tonight's gathering at the Tranzac....

And while I'm at it, a belated Season's Greeting to you all, whatever you celebrate, and hoping you are all enjoying good health.

And welcome to Toronto, Jeri....

Davey... (:>)

We had a fine old time at the Tranzac with "Catters" Peter T, Davey, Arnie Naiman, Tony Burns, Duckboots, and a number of non-cats who dropped by to enjoy the tunes and good cheer. Sadly missed was Banjo Bonnie, and the two Michaels.

Let's not forget Jeri!!!!!!! (fiddler lass -- what is a female fiddler, anyway, a fiddleuse?) Cosy evening, fun jamming. Also, good thing we weren't sucked into betting money on the Canadian Tire hockey game Rick just happened to bring along....("Let's just play us a little puck, between friends, a few hundred dollars on the side just to keep us from falling asleep here....)
yours, Peter T.
P.S. Good travelling, Jeri.

Rick, maybe for memorabilia you could make up some of those clear plastic domes filled with water, and when you shake them, the snow falls.
It could have a scene of little Mudcatters playing different instruments around the CN Tower.

Banjo Bonnie. That's all we need, a clear plastic sheath on the CN Tower and when you shake it white stuff floats around.

I think a female fiddle player is clearly a fiddle-her.

I do not think an O****na in the shape of the Giant Meringue called Skydome would work. Why not, you ask? It looks like someone has already blown up its ass.
