Beverley has closed and Alcester has closed.
The closure of Beverley is reminiscent of the closure of Pickering a few years ago, is this the result of business entrepreneurs trying to make a quick buck?
Perhaps, the UK Folk Revival, needs to give more support and realise the importance of the enthusiast who runs the weekly guest folk club, who is running a community based operation.
And at the same time be more wary of trusting entrepreneurs who take over what had previously been an established well run Festival,I suspect many unfortunate people had been duped not realising the management had changed at Beverley Folk Festival, as there was no change of name.

I posted a reply to this which seems to have vanished.

How many festivals actually depend on any help from the local folk club? Many festivals take place in towns or villages where there isn't one, and in others, like Whitby, the organization is mainly done by people from fairly distant cities.

So, supporting a folk club will probably have no effect whatever on the chances of survival of any festival.

A thread of the same name already exists about five threads down so why this new one is here is beyond me...

But is called the closure of FOLK festivals started by the very Dick Miles who started the first thread.

Why would he start another, I wonder? And why would that be allowed?
