Any info on folk sessions or singarounds in the vicinity of Aberfoyle (Scotland) for week commencing 12th May? Can't find anything likely on the usual sources on the net...

Thanks Freddy, but my "usual sources" are indeed some (if not quite all) those listed already under your separate thread - I have no others ... which is why I started this thread, in the hope of attracting some fresh sources!

Having made further enquiries of the very few possible venues I found by those means, one appears to be no longer running and another entry is completely incorrect! Well it was worth a try I guess.

Thanks Jack for your suggestion, but sorry to say Dunoon is way too distant.

Yep. It's a place I know from signs saying "thataway" and I'd forgotten where from.

There is an accordion and fiddle club in Fintry and a singers-with-guitars club in Bearsden/Milngavie.

TMSA calendar (i canny spell that word!) Has an online version; it includes folk clubs, sessions, festivals ...might not mention aberfoyle but you could find people with local knowledge to contact?
Try Nigel Gatheres site for listings or to ask the Q
Check Margaret Bennets site...more Crieff way but - local knowledge
Simon Thoumires weekly email listing and Traditional Music Forums monthly one. Listen to Travelling Folk (is it still on?!) And local radio stations also have online diaries of whats on in their area...so too do local papers.
Apologies if these suggestions have been covered already.

Nigel Gatherer is currently in Perth Royal Infirmary recovering from something drastic so his session in Crieff (probably too far anyway) may not run for a bit and he may be delayed in answering questions.

Depending on how far you want to travel, gig at the goil (lochgoilhead) is a wee festival this w/e
Think the Nova Scotia Folk Club is in Fort Theatre Bishopbriggs on Wednesdays
Facebook site Scottish Music Scene is worth checking
Thrre are lots of local festivals coming up in wee communities which often include folk music...maybe need to check scottish tourist board or county websites eg Argyll and Bute or Stirlingshirewhats on sites.

Weekend folk gigs at the Lade Inn, near Callander, which sometimes take on more of a session type feel.

I was also going to suggest Stirling Folk Club: meets in the Rugby Club at Bridgehaugh on Mondays, tho' mainly guest nights rather than sessions: check their website.

Also this: a very useful site for anyone looking for folk music, clubs, sessions, festivals in Scotland - with one proviso - always check that the advertised session is still happening!
Callander sessions

Updating you as requested --
The "long-established" Tuesday sessions at the Tappit Hen in Stirling "ceased years ago", I was told.
The only folk nights at the Lade Inn at Kilmahog nowadays are Saturdays when it's a local guest "act", no indication of any other performers being allowed.
"Traditional music sessions" at The Old Rectory Inn, Callander take place on Sundays from 5 till 8 pm and on Wednesdays from 8.30/9 pm till 11/11.30 pm. (Not quite as billed - this is actually two guys with guitars miked up and playing mostly the "popular" side of folk and American/60s/70s covers with occasional Scottish songs thrown in. Very friendly, and they will invite other singers or players up for a brief "turn" when they take a break themselves. It's a very small bar!)
Stirling folk club happens on Mondays, but the week I was in the area they had a booked guest, it was a local act, but the admission price advertised on the website seemed a bit on the expensive side considering ...
I was unable to get a reply to my enquiries about folk sessions at The Settle Inn, Stirling, either by phone or email.
Dunblane folk club apparently still meets on Sundays in the Dunblane Hotel, but the hotel staff denied this when I phoned, only mentioning a "jam session" on Tuesdays instead, but I didn't find this out in time to sample it.
Aberfoyle itself - the Forth Inn has a "folk music session" called AbTrad on the first Friday of each month, but again this was the "wrong" week for my visit so I was unable to sample it.

Of all the emails I sent enquiring about sessions or clubs I'd seen advertised, only one responded to me before I left home. Another replied a day late. But the rest didn't reply at all. Hmm...

I may have been misinformed about some of the above which I was unable to sample by personal experience, so would welcome any further updates or corrections as and when other Mudcatters visit the area.

Good to have that recent knowledge. Thanks.

I've popped that info on the generally unused "Folk Clubs Map" in case anyone wants to see just where they all are.

Sorry if it was all a bit negative! Did you ever try "Do you mind if we play a few tunes in here?" It has sometimes worked for my friends and I!

I was at the Lade Inn, Kilmahog about three years ago and witnessed an impromptu singing session.
