Don-

Glad to hear that you revived "Marquita."

Cheerily,

Number 24 should be "Mariquita", from the Poem by C. Fox Smith, adapted and musically arranged by Charlie Ipcar. Had a great time in spite of some missing voices! Looking forward to June.

I just cleared a space to do this update -- hear all the stuff clattering off the desk?

The crew was me, Bat Goddess aka Linn, Jeri, Ranger1, Amy W., Jim, Gail and Amanda, Don, Bill and Carol, Mike, W.B., and Rita.

And here's what we sang -

1. Greenland Whale Fisheries - Don (version from the Log of the Whale Ship Bengal)
2. Home, Dearie, Home - Linn
3. Away Rio - Amy W.
4. Mollymauk - Jeri
5. Haul Away, Joe - Jim
6. Paddy Doyle's Boots - Mike
7. Chicken On a Raft - Jeri
8. Shenandoah - Amanda (last verse - Don)
9. Cannery Shed - Linn
10. Farewell to Nova Scotia - Amy
11. Three Score and Ten - Don
12. The Water Is Wide - Gail F.
13. Grey Funnel Line - Rita
14. Old She Crab - Mike
15. The Girls Around Cape Horn - Don
16. Sandgate Girl's Lament - Linn
17. Haul Day - Amy W.
18. Sonny's Dream - Gail & Amanda
19. West Indies Blues - Ranger1
20. Lady Franklin's Lament - Don
21. Maggie May - Linn
22. Hieland Laddie - Jim
23. Race of Long Ago - Linn
24. Malaquita - Don
25. High Barbary - Amanda
26. Bold Riley - Rita
27. One For the Morning Glory - Mike
28. Eddystone Light - Amy W.
29. Lowlands - Gail
30. Plum Island National Anthem - Linn (written by Richard Johnson)
31. Twiddle - Amanda (written by Misbehavin' Maidens)
32. Nine Times a Night - Linn
33. The Silkie - Amy W.
34. Rule Britannia (parody) - Gail
35. God Save the King (parody) - Linn
36. Fiddler's Green - Jim
37. Seaman's Hymn - Don and the Company

As you can tell by the abbreviated song list, we spent a fair amount of time talking and telling stories. I wish I could share them all with you!

Please let me know of any typos, errors, or anything I've inadvertently missed.

Linn

Oh! Forgot to mention that the interview with me about the Friday session's relocation to the Continental finally ran in today's Seacoast Sunday (Sunday edition of the Portsmouth [NH] Herald). Because it's been sitting on an editor's desk for two months, the article doesn't state that the Press Room-In-Exile monthly Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad session is now also meeting at the Continental...or that the new owners of The Press Room have touched base with me and at least are in possession of my contact information.

What a lovely sing we had yesterday!

Looks like I won't have time to post what we sang until tomorrow. Yesterday was a very tightly packed day for me. I had a Maine Old Cemeteries Association meeting in Waterboro, Maine, and had to be on the road at 7 a.m. As it is, I didn't go to the cemetery after lunch, but headed back towards Somersworth, NH for the shanty sing.

We did have THREE people from the bar or the other dining room come in to tell us how much they enjoyed the music -- even though we actually spent a lot of time talking and telling stories.

More later!

Linn

Planning on being there. Time off secured from the park due to awesome manager and co-workers.

The session last month was wonderful, but the buffet was great, too. Gotta get there earlier this time, so the stuffing-of-face doesn't interfere with singing.

May Press Room Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad Session-In-Exile is ON AGAIN!!! Saturday, May 19th from 3:30 to 7:30 at the Continental Restaurant & Bar -- Rte. 9 within sight of the intersection of Rtes. 108 and Rte. 9 in Somersworth, NH. The address is 509 High Street -- High Street is also Rte. 9 and Indian Brook Drive. There is a set of lights right in front of the restaurant. (Second set from the intersection.)

Yes, it's the same Chinese restaurant where the Friday Anglo-Celtic Press Room-In-Exile trad session meets.

Plenty of parking, handicapped access, lots of seating, good acoustics, Guinness on draft, and, hey!, Chinese food.

We're in the function room just off the bar. When you come in the front door, turn left at the large saltwater fish tank, then turn right into the function room.

PLEASE come and support us! We had a great time last month even though several regulars were at NEFFA. Hope we see an even bigger turn out this month. We need to support the Continental so they don't need to rent out the space.

Hope to see you then!

Linn
