Just wondered where Leeneia found the sheet music. Google? I don't see a link to it. I could easily transpose it from sheet music: takes a bit more effort to transcribe from audio, and indeed sing it, as currently suffering ear problems which distort my sense of pitch, sadly.

I'm interested, is the first thing to say.I used to be one of the male singers in the Cecil Sharp House Choir, until I had to walk away in protest - I'm about to drop the real bomb in another posting, as my warning then is about to become hard reality. I've done quite well since, with a 3.5 octave range over several voices, working with one of London's major venues.

However, you'll have to wait a bit - I'm trying to save Cecil Sharp House, and that comes first. Fixing me teef so I can do a proper job comes second - I'm down for a complete set of implants at the end of the month. That's the tail end of a year and a half off, with a packet of serious illness, so I've got to get back into decent voice, and learn this on the instruments - I play both, to a fairish level (let's put it this way, when Paddy Moloney dropped by the gang at the Edinburgh Harp Festival during lunch some thirty years ago, we stopped the hall, because he started to lead, I played seconds, and not from the dots, which kept everyone well entertained and earned Paddy's respect)

If you're an amateur musician and plan to use the song for personal purposes, I wouldn't get bogged down too much in legalities. Just work up the song and do it. If you want to sell the song or perform it professionally, that's another matter.
Just do it, and have fun with it. The lyrics and tune are both quite nice.

lovely words. i think they mostly fit the tune, except for the verse about the corner. you would probably want to contact the composer for permission..copyrights etc.

The lyrics definitely fit. I suppose I could send someone an audio file of how they fit, if they could tune out my tunelessness (That's probably not a word...). There are certain words that hang over two or more notes. Examples including:
"A brand new start i-is waiting for you".
"You-ou-our legacy will remain".
Very hard to make that work via text, I understand, and I can't read a note of sheet music so trying to add the words underneath would be a fools errand.

I appreciate your giving it a listen Leeneia :) it is a big range, but maybe there's someone out there who could do it. Or someone with an ear for harmonies that could harmonise the too-high/too-low notes and make them work?

Tatties, again, I appreciate the listen. If you (or maybe someone else?) have the ability to transpose the music, that would be fine with me.
Mistaken/mistaking... Interesting question. The genuine answer is, I don't know. I would use "mistaken" as a colloquialism without second thought, but I suppose in proper English "mistaking" would be the preferred term? If someone were to take this on, I would be more than happy for them to use whichever felt more natural.

As per Helens advice: the lyrics belong to me, and would be credited to "Nevada", which will hopefully be my handle if accepted for membership.

Note/tune-wise, if not the same rhythm, reminds me of "The Sweetness of Mary".
As Leeneia says, it has quite a big range for a singer, even without the key change. Normally I could manage the range, but would have to put the KEY down to G or even F below middle C to stand a chance! (I am female, low alto!)
One thing in the lyrics, 3rd verse, do you mean "mistaking" rather than "mistaken"?

I listened to the video and looked at the sheet music. I'm afraid your request is a tall order. That melody isn't a song for singing. It resembles movie music, and it goes from D at the bottom of the staff to the G above. That is a big range.

The timing is quite complex, and fitting the words to the notes would take a long time. I'm sorry I can't do it.

In the meantime, I have dated proof of various stages of writing, if by some slim chance someone decided to try and lay claim to my lyrics.

I can't see how to edit my post to add my name to it, if there is such an option, but hopefully once membership is approved the "guest" will change.

As the writer of the lyrics, it is important - imperative, in fact - that you add your name to the lyrics to claim ownership. I understand that you may want to post anonymously here, but to prevent problems later it is important to put a copyright claim on the lyrics.

The Mudcatters here care about the correct people being attributed for composing tunes or writing lyrics. Everything is accessible these days on the internet, so stake your claim now.

Oh, hey that's really kind of you, thank you :)

If it helps any: the context for the lyrics is that someone has passed away. The song is from someone who looked up to the departed as a role model, as it wishing them well for whatever lies ahead, and assuring them that they will continue the lessons they were taught.

I suppose I may as well put the lyrics here now for anyone who may be interested.

I think they fit well with the melody of the lead whistle... I hope they do.

Firstly, I apologise if this is in the wrong place, or, on the wrong website altogether.

I'm looking for someone who would perhaps do me the kindness of recording a song for me. Doesn't have to be professional quality or anything like that.

Background info: I found a beautiful piece of music on YouTube, quite by chance, and have written lyrics to go with it. I can't sing a note, however, so I can only hear it in my head, and I'd love to hear it properly.

Anyway, if anyone would like to do this, please let me know and I'll send the lyrics.
