Is there a way to view iso disk image files in Windows 7? (Microsoft have a utility for this, but it DOESN'T work.)
I have a magazine freebie subscription and the CD that comes with the paid version is replaced by a downloaded iso file. You can view these directly on Mac OS or Windows 8/10, but with Windows 7 the only answer is to burn a CD. My laptop's CD drive is crap, and ... (insert long list of complaints here!)

Hi, Steve-
It's been a while since I've used Windows 7, but I thought you could run .iso files by just clicking on them in File Manager.
Maybe that's an innovation that came with Windows 8 or 10, but I thought it was possible in Windows 7.
Let us know what happens.

If I remember correctly, WinRar opens them up for viewing...

Joe, it only works in 8 & 10.
Dave, The things that are supposed to let you mount an iso can't be installed: at some stage the thing you need to click to proceed is greyed out.

WinRar worked! I am very chuffed.
The trial version lasts for forty days, so it should be good for the next issue of the mag, and by the time the one after that comes out I may have bought a new laptop ... otherwise I'll have to stump up for the full version of WinRar.

WinRar just flashes a pop up opening screen after the trial runs out..
but seems to be fully functional for ever...

Grey area.. but winrar and millions of users are aware of it...

There’s a shareware program called daemon tools. With it you can create a virtual drive and mount the .iso file.

Completely forgot daemon tools..
must be about 10 years or even more
since I last had it installed on an XP PC...???

That was well back in the days of musicians websites sharing isos
of software & Sample CDroms
on FTPs, over slow dial up internet...

I have used Imgburn recently to create an image and set up a virtual XP machine on my windows 10 machine. It works with any version of windows
