Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST Date: 17 May 18 - 02:10 PM this wouldn't be a Scots version of the Killimor Jig? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 17 May 18 - 05:06 PM Can't open the link but the Kilimor (jig) is a Seán Ryan composition. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST,jim bainbridge Date: 18 May 18 - 01:24 PM not sure of its origin, Peter, but I recall hearing Pat McNulty, Glasgow uilleann piper playing it in the mid sixties- does that fit? I think it's in his manuscript book of tunes from around then. Thanks the one where his preface is scathing about playing tunes too fast- dead right I thought then and just asmuch now.... |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST,kenny Date: 18 May 18 - 01:54 PM "Ghille Mor" ? If it's "Meantime" - a Scottish band - it's very unlikely to have anything to do with Irish music. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST,kenny Date: 18 May 18 - 01:56 PM Spelt thus - last track on their 3rd album : "Cille Mhoire" - according to a "Google search. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Cille Mhor From: GUEST,kenny Date: 18 May 18 - 02:01 PM Nothing to do with "Ghille Mhor" - that was an educated guess. It's a slow air, most probably Gaelic in origin, but could be an original composition by a band member. Your best bet is to buy the CD, or the complete download from "iTunes", which has a "Digital booklet" attached. |
