Subject: who would be in your band? From: Andy7 Date: 18 May 18 - 05:54 PM Imagine that you can choose any 3 people, whether currently or previously alive, to form a new band with you. You will be the leader of this select musical group, and you can choose 3 other people to join you. Here are my choices: First, I'd choose Roberta Flack, a brilliant solo singer for some of our new band's songs, and she'd also harmonise well in songs sung by others. Plus, she plays the keyboard rather well. My next choice would be Robin Williamson. He could play almost any insrument that was needed, as well as bringing another good vocal to the group. And, he'd introduce us to a wide selection of traditional songs. For my third choice, I'd have to reach back to the 18th century, for Wolfgang A Mozart. He'd be our band's creative genius, figuring out the arrangements for most of our songs, and also writing us loads of new material. And I suspect he'd play and sing rather well too! So, who would be in your ideal band of you and 3 other musicians? |

Subject: RE: who would be in your band? From: Mo the caller Date: 19 May 18 - 09:51 AM Can I call with them and a real musician lead. So many excellent dance bands and maybe I should keep them in the group that already fits so well together. Lets have fiddler - so many to chose from - e.g. Tom Kitchen or Aidan Broadbridge - he managed to sound like a whole band when the other player went home early one snowy evening or...or...or.. I love the brass & percussion playing of Nick Dewhurst, I've heard him with his father Chris playing accordion - hmm there's another versatile musician - but would that mean dropping the fiddle? Gosh, there are just so many. I can't choose one and leave out another. Some that I enjoy calling with, some I've danced to and would love to call with. Some I've played wrong notes to while they led workshops & sessions. Versatile, patient, humourous, marvellous players. |
Subject: RE: who would be in your band? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 19 May 18 - 10:19 AM Sonny Black on guitars & vocals, Pete Stroud on bass, Sam Kelly on drums. Nothing for me to do except do intros, crack jokes and the occasional kazoo obligato & scrape along in the background. If we're talking dead folks then Satchmo, Mississippi Fred and Willie Dixon. Subject: RE: who would be in your band? From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 21 May 18 - 03:42 AM Hay, Tattie, that's more than 3! I'd have Ben Waters on piano (live) or Fats Waller (dead) if I can have 4! RtS |
Subject: RE: who would be in your band? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 21 May 18 - 11:48 AM Oh sorry, should have read the OP better! I'm assuming some of them might say no, which could reduce it to 3! |

Subject: RE: who would be in your band? From: Andy7 Date: 21 May 18 - 05:43 PM My OP limit of three was just meant to help make the choice a bit more straightforward. There's no law against inviting more, of course ... as long as the (fictitious) royalties and gig fees are sufficient to support everyone in the band! |
