Subject: Clarence Fountain (Blind Boys of Alabama) From: keberoxu Date: 04 Jun 18 - 06:44 PM There has already been one death for the Blind Boys of Alabama vocal group, founding member George Scott. Clarence Fountain, another founding member, has now died. Each of these two men had to retire for health reasons; diabetes contributed to both their demises. Jimmy Carter is now the surviving founding member. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Clarence Fountain (Blind Boys of Alabama From: keberoxu Date: 04 Jun 18 - 10:44 PM My abject apologies to those Mudcat members/readers who are better acquainted than I with the Blind Boys of Alabama, because you will have spotted my error in the opening post. previously deceased, founding group members: Velma Bozeman Traylor died in 1947. George Scott died in 2005. Ollice Thomas died in 1992. Johnny Fields (bass vocals) was living in Henderson, North Carolina, when he died in 2009. (Alzheimer's disease a contributing factor in death.) Partially-sighted founding member, J. T. Hutton, became a minister. His ministry was in the city of Birmingham. I find reports that he suffered from Alzheimer's. Is he dead? I can't find his death year. |

His spouse, Margaret Hutton, 1923 - 2014. One common headstone over both their graves in Birmingham, Alabama's Elmwood Cemetery. (Like pulling teeth to find this online ... I still don't know what J. T. stands for.) |

Subject: RE: 2018 Obit:Clarence Fountain(Blind Boys of Alabama) From: keberoxu Date: 05 Jun 18 - 12:34 AM Clarence Fountain's dates are 1929 - 2018. (Look again: that 1923 date is for J. T. Hutton.) |
Subject: RE: 2018 Obit:Clarence Fountain(Blind Boys of Alabama) From: GUEST,Anita Hutton-Jefferson (J.T.’s daughter) Date: 26 Feb 21 - 03:12 PM Anita Hutton Jefferson My father and mother, Margaret Hutton had nine children of which I’m the eldest. This is an interesting thread. Most of what I’ve read so far is correct. My brother, Donald Ray is a photostatic memory person. He knows everything. The original name for the Alabama Blind-Boys wasThe Happy Land Singers. Jimmy Carter was not an originally a member, he was originally with the 5-Blind-Boys, Mississippi. mrsajjj@bellsouth.net Huntsville, Alabama |
