Subject: RE: Folk maps UK From: FreddyHeadey Date: 06 Jun 18 - 09:03 AM For any of these links which give the option of opening in "browser" or "maps", choose "browser". On a tablet(\mobile?) use the map in landscape format or you won't see the search\layer options. It sounds like you've already got Chris Rust's UK map(2015) "Folk Music Map" I'm not too sure if he is actively updating it at the moment? https://folkmusicmap.wordpress.com & Pyramid [as I'd already typed it out] Stockport \ Manchester \ Cheshire http://www.pyramidfolk.info/index2.htm There is also a 2012 "Folk Club Map" https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1plE0C69JOiO8FotbmDlDvE2qxbM Assume it's mostly 2012 unless you find a dated entry. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1plE0C69JOiO8FotbmDlDvE2qxbM&ll=53.517%2C-4.629&z=6 OpenMicFinder will give you a map but you start from a listing page. I attempted to make a map showing listers of folk links. In many areas you just have to go through the list an get out your gazeteer. I split it into three layers : UK \ Regional \ County(includes some at 'town' level) Everyone who makes a web page has their own particular agenda of course. The regional layer is particularly messy. Subject: RE: Folk maps UK From: GUEST,Observer Date: 06 Jun 18 - 08:06 AM Now THAT Pyramid Folk webmaster is an absolutely marvellous and extremely useful website - well done!!! |
Subject: RE: Folk maps UK From: GUEST,Pyramid Folk webmaster Date: 06 Jun 18 - 07:41 AM Here's a link to the Manchester/Stockport map I presume you were referring to. Pyramid Folk Hub map page Producing such a map is a labour of love and is only worthwhile if I can see that it is useful to people (as judged by viewing figures). Local clubs rarely inform me of their events and seem to increasingly rely on FaceBook which is easy to use but has many disadvantages. |
Subject: Folk maps UK From: GUEST,Fyldeplayer Date: 06 Jun 18 - 06:34 AM My good lady is joining me in retirement land this year. We will be visiting UK towns of interest and would hope to combine with club spots / singarounds. Apart from the Wordpress folk map and a recently posted on Mudcat map for the Manchester area can any other area maps be suggested. These really are useful, thanks to those who create and revise them. |
