Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Nigel Parsons Date: 19 Jun 24 - 04:41 PM I seem to have missed this thread when making downloads available to the folk community. The 4 years of 'Rhythm & Melody' can now be downloaded: Here, with a separate folder for each booklet |
Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Nigel Parsons Date: 23 Oct 20 - 06:39 AM The whole series of these (4 years, or 12 booklets) now digitised (scanned) to be more readily available. All the earlier Rhythm & Melody (which was included in the Singing Together booklets) also scanned (at least, those in my collection). This means I can reply promptly for info, rather than having to go find the booklet & scan/transcribe. |
Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 07 Sep 20 - 03:46 PM I remember the first broacast of the Autumn 1960 series as the first song was "The Watchet Sailor"; and I was in the Watchet Church Primary School. It all seemed so involving! Robin |
Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Nigel Parsons Date: 07 Sep 20 - 12:27 PM As I said in the Time & Tune thread: " I've had some requests from people trying to find particular illustrators of these pamphlets. While my interest is in the music, knowing how Google manages to find things here I thought I would place a list of the illustrators here. Given time late I might go through and add them to the individual contents lists." Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Nigel Parsons Date: 12 Apr 20 - 12:08 PM Hi, Steve. If it's 50s it will either be "Time and Tune", or "Singing Together, with Rhythm & Melody". In most cases we already have the contents listed (in chronological order) at one of these two links: Time & Tune Contents Singing Together Contents If it's not on those lists then please list the contents (here or there). If the contents aren't already listed then it's one of the few from the 1950s that I'm missing. Cheers! |
Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Steve Gardham Date: 12 Apr 20 - 07:51 AM I have just found an old 50s one among the papers I salvaged of an old friend who was a folksong collector in the 50s, I will be sorting through the pile again this afternoon. Would you like me to post the contents before I file it in the loft? |
Subject: RE: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: JHW Date: 09 Apr 20 - 03:57 PM These are fascinating. I heard no more of Singing Together after listening in Primary school (we all listened, one village school, one teacher, one class, 5 to 11 yr olds, maybe 30 of us) |

Subject: Rhythm & Melody: BBC Broadcasts From: Nigel Parsons Date: 16 Jun 18 - 07:19 AM Among the BBC Broadcasts for Schools for several years the broadcast of "Rhythm & Melody" was accompanied by a songbook which was part of the Singing Together songbook. In Autumn 1960 the two separated, having a single songbook for each broadcast series. The books I have for the pre-Autumn 1960 series are listed at the link above. This new thread is intended to list the few books I have for the Rhythm & Melody broadcast alone. I will list the songs in each issue, but will not attempt to include the 'music only' section which was just used for listening, and included several classical themes. |
