Subject: Help: ABCs on The Mudcat Midi Page
From: Mbo
Date: 22 Dec 99 - 05:27 PM

Alright, I have the ABC file ready for the tunes I want to put on the Mudcat Midi Page. I know the procedure for sending midis, but do I do the same thing with the ABCs (email subjects lines, etc.)? And do I send them to Alan? Is every one sure they we're NOT using gifs or jpegs? Some of my ABCs are a bit complex, and may be somewhat confusing to read in ABC form. And since this is sort of an extension of Aine's Mudcat Songbook, is there any way we can put short comments about the tunes like we do on the songbook? Thanks for all your fine work!

Dear Mbo,

When you get this straightened out with alison/Alan, please be sure to let me know when your tunes/ABCs have been posted on the Mudcat Midi page, so I can make a note of that on The Songbook.

G'day Mbo,
If you have an ABC, just send a text file & add comments if you like. If you have a gif or jpg send that too, although it might put a strain on the amount of space available.

Cheers,
Alan

Hi Mbo, if you want to have a go at creating a Midi file from your ABC file the following link will enable a FREE download of the Windows version of a nice little utility (ABCMIDI) that does it very easily, and plays them as well. I believe that this program (or the code embedded in it) is the one that Bruce O recommends for the best quality conversion from ABC to Midi, and he is arguably the best qualified person at Mudcat to do so.http://members.soltec.net/~daglenn/abcmidi.html

Please note that this is NOT the program that Alan developed to create Midis from Mudcat text files.

Regards, John
