Subject: Tech: Blue clicky for a Mudcat page page
From: Richard Mellish
Date: 17 Jun 18 - 09:51 AM

The blue clicky generator works fine for most URLs but goes wrong for a URL on Mudcat itself. For anywhere else, after the href= the text in quotes starts with https://

Where the link is to a page here, instead of https:// there is just a single / before the rest of the URL. When one then does Preview or just posts, the resulting URL starts with https://mudcat.org/mudcat.org/ which fails. I've found a workaround, which is to insert the https:/ by hand before the lone /

Hope that isn't too confusing!

Richard

I always hand code links, it's a simple pattern to type and a good habit.

<a href="http://www.google.com">http://www.google.com</a>

This is produced using html symbols, not the actual characters or it wouldn't appear as code.

<a href="http://mudcat.org">http://mudcat.org</a>

Thanks Acme.
On a pc I might try that.
Good to know and a good habit.

This got me to measure why I do like the blickifier.

For my android tablet doing it manually :

< back to text is four keystrokes
a href is six keystrokes
= back to text is four keystrokes.
" is press & hold,
paste is two keystrokes
" is press & hold,
> is three keystrokes
paste is two keystrokes
< is three keystrokes
/ back to text is three keystrokes
> is three keystrokes
=thirtytwo
and then I like to check...
preview submit - two keystrokes
tap&hold > open in new tab - two keystrokes

v

blickifier is one keystroke
paste two
create one
copy four
test, & back to thread two
paste one
=eleven

But it's not just the time, it's my propensity to make a typo.
And I don't have to concentrate that I've got all the letters in the right order.

Understood - I hate to try to do any writing or editing on my phone or tablet.

Use Firefox and my_addon, which will make links with one click and no tedious copying and pasting. (Also on desktop - Firefox and Chrome.)
