Subject: Celtic blues? From: GUEST,akenaton Date: 17 Jun 18 - 03:07 PM No, not an oxymoron, but another thread got me thinking why have we no blues in Scottish music.....Then I remembered this from an old much missed friend. Big Hamish |
Subject: RE: Celtic blues? From: medievallassie Date: 17 Jun 18 - 10:31 PM Thanks for the sharing!! As a trad singer who has spent 33 years in the Mississippi delta, i about jumped out of my chair when I saw "Celtic Blues" written side by side, lol! This video verifies for me what I tell so many others...you can make any song at all into a blues version. I'll have toread up on Big Hamish. :-) |
Subject: RE: Celtic blues? From: keberoxu Date: 17 Jun 18 - 10:46 PM What sprang to my mind, on reading the thread title, was bodhran master Gino Lupari from northern Ireland, who loves to mix Chicago blues in with tunes like "Tipping it up wi' Nancy." |
Subject: RE: Celtic blues? From: GUEST,akenaton Date: 18 Jun 18 - 04:34 AM Thanks...Lassie Hamish was a regular at our Folk Club in the 60's and 70's, his guitar style was something new to us guys raised on strumming :0)..He was a gem personally , always friendly and helpful. He did several LPs for Transatlantic Extra and was quite a celebrity ....in the best possible sense....Enjoy. Ker...I'm a great fan of Four men and a Dog and Gino certainly adds spice.....Very like Hamish in presentation. |
