Yes it will be running and "My Guru Always Says" will be directing operations.

3.30 - 5.30pm at the Railway Inn, Moira. There might be some chocolate there?

It's in the UK. Not too far from Ashby de la Zouch. The village is called Moira. There is an old blast furnace which is now a museum. The grounds are alongside a canal. It is a lovely site. If anyone was thinking of visiting the UK this would be a festival I would recommend.

? Saturday ?

Do you sing or play or sit round discussing obscure folky facts(which invariably end up with two people talking about the merits(or otherwise) of being Jimmy Miller)

I should be there but idk exactly when or where yet.

It was a blast furnace, Nick. Steam powered at that. I have been a few times and concur that it is a very fine festival but we are too busy this year.

It was only in blast for a few years; the quality of the local iron ore wasn't up to much hence it being quite well preserved.

Well Blow Me. I was a woman in a previous life I can't be wrong. But I am, I always thought it was a Lime Kiln from when I went on a School Trip in 1949 to Moira Pottery

I haven't been before, but from other experiences I imagine it will slowly degenerate into people singing folk songs ;)

Once again I am very disappointed to see a post which completely fails to give any information and just asks a question - and expects the whole world (yes, this is on the World Wide Web) to know where when and what you are talking about!!

As seen above, not everybody knows everything.

And yes I hope to be at the Moira Furnace Festival, in the UK, from 17th to 19th August !

Just to clarify there will indeed be a Mudgather at Moira Furnace Folk Festival, Leics, UK. This will be in The Railway Inn, Moira and 3.30 - 5.30pm on Saturday 18th August. "My Guru" is going to be at the Festival and running proceedings.

As it turns out I may be able to get there on Saturday after all. It may be too late for the gather but if not, I will buy Nigel a pint on behalf of Raggytash. I may buy others but Nigel knows what this one is for :-)

Fingers crossed.

I will be there, as usual.

In answer to the question above, it is a sing-around session. Depends a bit on who is there, of course, but usually quite a good session with a nice variety of styles.

And yes, Acorn4, there WILL be chocolate!

Oh yes, there will be chocolate!!!

Apologies for my late appearance on this thread, life has been more chaotic than usual here at Old Keepers!

So looking forward to our Traditional Moira Mudgather, and many thanks to Acorn4 for kicking off this thread and for other Catters who have explained it rather nicely!

A gathering of Catters and interested others (you don't have to be a MudCatter) in a lovely pub during the Moira Folk Festival weekend (in the UK), of 17th to 19th August 2018.

We'll be there (probably in the lovely upstairs room of the Railway pub) on Saturday 18th August from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

We'll gather, chat a little, laugh some, introduce ourselves, have a bit of a Sing & possibly some Music too - and some of us will probably bring chocolate items to share & scoff!

So looking forward to it - see you there?

Chocolate with beer sounds gross!. If I have to give up one or the other it will be chocolate. I've been to two Mudgathers now and they are well worth the effort. Last year my folk police duties intervened and it looks like this year the same. Still, best wishes to all.

Stan.

I'm sure it will be lovely, Hils - but once again I'm unable to make it to Moira this year. Partly due to ongoing illness, and partly due to being continually disenfranchised by the festival "management" for no sensible reason.
Such a shame, as Moira was always one of my favourite festivals.
Hoping it goes well.

Thanks for your kind words about MudGathers Stanron, hope you get plenty of Folky Fun when you're not busy working!

Are you casting nasturtiums on whether our singing can be considered musical?

There's a chance I'll have my grand-daughter with me. She doesn't really sing yet, but I believe she can cope with chocolate. ;)

Chocolate eating Grand-daughter very welcome Nigel, looking forward to seeing/hearing you again!

I'm sure that singing counts as being musical, I just don't want to exclude any non-singing musicians!

Kathy Wallis will be telling her abridged version of the story of Hedd Wyn, the Welsh Bard of the Black Chair, on Sunday afternoon, with musical interruptions from us.

A good gather with a good number of performers (or a number of good performers).
Hilary was taking the register, so I guess a list of those who were there will become available soon.

Thanks all!
