Subject: Tune Req: Looking for new music From: GUEST,Evan E. Date: 25 Jun 18 - 09:46 PM Really loving Nancy Kerr and James Fagan's music lately. I'm hoping to find new music that is a similar style. I especially love the material from Starry Gazy Pie and Strands of Gold. The way James Fagan plays guitar/bouzouki is really fun to listen to. His strumming style and skill at creating interesting rhythms is amazing. I would love some recommendations on similar artists |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for new music From: gillymor Date: 26 Jun 18 - 07:35 AM I'm listening to Starry Hazy Pie and that is some monster zouk playing, in fact, I find all the instrumental and vocal work impressive. Thanks for the heads up. I can't really think of any new artists that parallel these two but you might like Solas, Malinky and Lothlorien. Also there is a fairly recent recording by Corey Purcell called Flying Solo you might be interested in with more good zouk (and other instruments played by Purcell) and singing. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for new music From: michaelr Date: 26 Jun 18 - 07:13 PM Guest Evan, you've just made my day. I googled Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, and her song "Queen of Waters" came up. What a gem! Sorry I can't help you with any new music, but thank you for pointing me to some. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for new music From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 27 Jun 18 - 08:57 AM Well a good place to start would be Nancy Kerr's albums with Eliza Carthy, and also with her mum, Sandra Kerr. James Fagan's duo The James Brothers are a lot of fun, distinctly more rouguish and piratical than his duo with his missus https://thejamesbrothers.co.uk/about/ Hmmmm... what else... Simply because they are a male/female partnership, reasonably 'new' and, more importantly, because they are VERY GOOD I would recommend Laura Smyth and Ted Kemp: https://laurasmythandtedkemp.bandcamp.com/album/the-poachers-fate |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Looking for new music From: FreddyHeadey Date: 04 Jul 18 - 06:23 AM Well I don't speak with any authority but when you mention Nancy Kerr the voices which come to mind are of Ewan McLennan http://alanbearmanmusic.co.uk/artists/ewan-mclennan/ Jess Arrowsmith https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=jess+arrowsmith Fay Heald https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fay_Hield |
