Subject: RE: Tune Add: What shall we give? From: leeneia Date: 29 Jun 18 - 10:21 AM Thanks, Nigel. That's a lovely tune, add the lyrics and it's a good piece for Christmastime, esp. Epiphany. |

Subject: RE: Tune Add: What shall we give? From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 27 Jun 18 - 01:57 PM The tune (El Noi de la mare) is well-known to classical guitarists. Miguel Llobet, a pupil of Tarrega and a Catalan himself, arranged it for guitar (amongst other Catalan tunes) and it has been widely played and recorded by guitarists. Mick |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: What shall we give? From: Nigel Parsons Date: 27 Jun 18 - 12:40 PM Searching for more information, I came across: El Noi de la Mare (What shall we give to the child of the mother)given as a Catalan carol. Or What shall we give to the child in the manger which, despite a nonsense (or drum aping) chorus "Tam pat-an, Tam Pat-an" follows the same melody. Despite me not recognising this, it appears to be fairly well-known, and a popular source for arrangers. |
Subject: Tune Add: What shall we give? From: Nigel Parsons Date: 27 Jun 18 - 11:20 AM I spotted this one when listing contents of BBC Rhythm & Melody. I didn't recognise it, and thought it might be a nice addition for Christmas. The tune looks pleasant, singing it through in my head. I only have the first page (others missing) so there may be further verses. WHAT SHALL WE GIVE? Rhythm & Melody Autumn 1962 What shall we give to the child of our Lady? What shall we give to the Infant king?
