Subject: Sheringham Potty Festival From: Senoufou Date: 02 Jul 18 - 05:16 PM This is on next weekend. Forty sides will be dancing, and it looks like a great selection. Sad that Leeds Morris don't seem to be on the list though. However the Witchmen will be there. Just hoping this fearfully hot weather will have cooled down a bit. No fun for the Morris dancers in 28 degrees! Anyone planning on going to Sheringham to watch/take part? |

Subject: RE: Sheringham Potty Festival From: GUEST,Jon Date: 05 Jul 18 - 01:55 PM I didn't really enjoy my last time there and my feedback was probably coloured by too much Nelson's Revenge or something... But if home circumstances allow, I feel tempted to have another look in. The web site doesn't give any info on this but I was chatting to someone (non folk that I know of but lives in the town) who thought there were open tune sessions. Do you know anything about that, Sen (or anyone else). |
Subject: RE: Sheringham Potty Festival From: Senoufou Date: 05 Jul 18 - 02:05 PM There is a tune/song session at the Robin Hood pub from 8pm until late on the Saturday, and on Sunday at 2pm there's one in the garden of the Lobster pub. They're also going to attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records entry for highest number of Morris dancers simultaneously dancing; that's from 10.30am until 11am. It's going to be absolutely stonking hot, and I hope it doesn't affect the dancers adversely. |

Subject: RE: Sheringham Potty Festival From: Senoufou Date: 09 Jul 18 - 09:24 AM Well, we went yesterday (Sunday 8th July) and were rather disappointed, because most of the sides had gone! We watched the Witchmen (excellent as always), Loose Women (ditto) and some really good youngsters in blue Border Morris outfits that danced extremely energetically. Lovely to see the next generation dancing. I expect the Saturday had been very exacting; the heat was terrific, even by the seashore. I can understand the dancers didn't wish to linger until the Sunday. Husband wore his white Ivorian long tunic and trousers, embroidered with grey in an intricate design. He kept nice and cool! |
