Thanks for the correction, Bob. I'll take your word on the spelling!

Regardless of what it might say on Google and elsewhere The Welly Boot Song (If It Wisnae for yer Wellies) was written by Geordie McEwen (not sure I’ve spelled his name correctly) who helped run the Ayr Folk Club in the 1960’s.

I seem to recall Billy C crediting George with the authorship at one point, and it was printed in the DATA (Draughtnan’s and AlliedTechnicians) union magazine sometime prior to 1970. George McEwen was a member of DATA at the time. I think he subsequently moved to the Orkney Islands.

Whilst I was living in England George Mc booked me for the Ayr Club round about 1968 and he sang his song that night.

Thanks heavens for someone who can spell Adam's name correctly! He once complimented me on so doing on the poster I had produced for our local Folk Club!

The Jeely Piece Song is by Adam MacNaughtan - He recorded it on a Greentrax Album - but a google search would have told you that.

The main difference between "Jeely Piece" (JP) and "Chewing Gum" (CG) is that JP does not have the same rising phrase in the second half of the tune as in CG. But the YouTube suggested by DTM will get you there.
Welly Boot is by Billy Connolly, so you could look him up, or for "Wark o the Weavers" try Alex Campbell's version on YouTube also.
Or, Duncan, you could pm me if you want sheet music or a wee tune-only rendition on box or piano.

Jeely Piece is set to a variant of Does Your Chewing Gum Lose its Flavour on the BedPost Overnight" and the Welly boot song is Work o' the Weavers.

There's a Matt McGinn version of the Jeely Piece Song on YouTube.

I have a friend looking for recorded music for The Jeely Piece Song and for The Welly Boot Song for an amateur Christmas Panto.
Does anyone know the names of the tunes and of any tune only recordings that they might be able to use?
