Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,henryp Date: 02 Aug 18 - 03:02 AM History Lesson is written and sung by Leon Rosselson. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: DaveRo Date: 02 Aug 18 - 03:52 AM SB: I suggest you put them up as three separate mp3s to make it easier for folk to listen to. Downloading and unzipping is a bit of a challenge on some devices, especially if you're not a Dropbox user. And if you are, Dropbox should just play them in app of browser. The tracks are clear - someone will recognise the musicians. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST Date: 02 Aug 18 - 05:51 AM Yes, I'm old and un-techy. Neither I nor my Android tablet seem to know what to do with zip files. This might apply to a number of mudcats. Make it easy and safe for us! The spirit is willing but... |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,Richard Date: 02 Aug 18 - 08:37 AM Highland Laddie could be the Tannahill Weavers, still going strong after 50 years, I see from their website, though I've not seen them for nearly that many years! Richard |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,SB Date: 02 Aug 18 - 09:47 AM Dropbox uploads - NOT zipped ... The other two are still a mystery ... Maybe the Tannihill Weavers or Battlefield Band? https://www.dropbox.com/s/9d8cbg5irufwk00/highland%20laddie.mp3?dl=0 The History Lesson appears to be a performance by Leon Rosselson https://www.dropbox.com/s/7h9fgdld5uqkpa3/history%20lesson.mp3?dl=0 Maybe Peter Bellamy or Mike Waterson? https://www.dropbox.com/s/igr5fenzfgrebp3/Well%20Met%20My%20Loving%20Friends%20of%20Art.mp3?dl=0 |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: DaveRo Date: 02 Aug 18 - 12:01 PM I don't think that's Leon Rosselson. And it's not Peter Bellamy. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,kenny Date: 02 Aug 18 - 12:56 PM "Hieland Laddie" is definitely "The Tannahill Weavers" - from the album "Mermaid's Song". |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,henryp Date: 02 Aug 18 - 01:00 PM History Lesson; It's not Leon Rosselson, it's Brian Peters. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: DaveRo Date: 02 Aug 18 - 02:08 PM Sound Tradition use a harmonium. Are there female voices in there? My wife thinks so, I'm not so sure. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: GUEST,SB Date: 02 Aug 18 - 02:39 PM Great - thanks guys. We're getting there. Meanwhile the 'Well Met ...' track sounds (to me) like the Watersons. Leastwise the harmonium might be Dolly Collins'. We've sent an email to Sound Tradition. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: DaveRo Date: 02 Aug 18 - 03:56 PM Here's a non-Dropbox link: Well Met My Loving Friends of Art |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 02 Aug 18 - 04:36 PM Brian Peter was on Folk on 2 performing "History lesson" on 20th May 1992 if that narrows down the date. Might have been repeated in another programme that I don't have the running order of. Robin Madge |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: Brian Peters Date: 02 Aug 18 - 04:57 PM Thanks for spotting me, chaps, and to SB for letting me hear the performance again. I did record 'History Lesson' for a CD but I think this version is probably better. |
Subject: RE: Folk on 2 - Artists From: Reinhard Date: 02 Aug 18 - 05:14 PM "Well Met My Loving Friends of Art" is actually "The Musical Society" (Roud 24257), as sung by Canny Fettle on their 1977 Traditional Sound album Trip to Harrogate with Dave Hillery singing lead and Phil Bartlett playing harmonium. |
