A new podcast by the broadcaster Matthew Bannister.

Folk On Foot
"... the exciting new podcast that brings together my three passions: folk music, walking and telling stories in sound.

It’s a simple idea - I go walking with a leading folk musician in a landscape that has inspired them.  They also sing and play on location.

Some of the finest performers in the country have already taken part and we’ve criss-crossed the UK recording in fields, by rivers, up mountains and in the odd pub and kitchen.

The conversations are fascinating and the music is sublime. "

The first podcast is with the Young'Uns - Hartlepool
Future lineup ...
Karine Polwart - Fala Moor -
Sam Lee - Sussex -
Eliza Carthy (& family) - Robin Hood's bay
Steve Knightley - the eExe trail -
Cara Dillon - Dungiven -

Thanks for this - it's superb. As a Poolie myself I'm enjoying revisiting my home town in their company.

Looking forward to hearing the others too

Episode 2 is up now
"
Season 1 Episode 2: Karine Polwart - Fala Moor -
Karine was named Folk Singer of the Year at the 2018 Radio 2 Folk Awards. Her solo theatre piece “Wind Resistance” and album “A Pocket of Wind Resistance” were inspired by Fala Moor near her home in Midlothian just south of Edinburgh.
She takes Matthew for a walk across the Moor which is a haven for wildlife, particularly birds. As she sings you can hear skylarks and curlews flying around her.
Karine tells stories of the people who lived near the moor and the monastic hospital which stood nearby where pioneering herbal treatments were invented. And she reflects on n her own life journey from social worker dealing with survivors of domestic violence to award winning folk singer."
