Because the natural reaction is to shit yourself when you unexpectedly come in close proximity to a grizzly.?

At my age and health problems by gods grace I am still running mountains and beating the bush. But much sooner than later it will end. Until then I will not go gentle into the arm chair and remote as long as I am able. Do admit I get spent quickly

One of the tribal elders was hoping we would give him the heart and liver and he got it. The native guys were amazing. Saw us working so hard asked for nothing and helped. Well they are all set now. Me getting up close and personal with the muskox was amazing. They huddle together like a football team and stare you down but really mean. You don’t want a charge unless you are a matador lol . They snort at you and stamp their feet

I hope u saved the liver for yourself, Dan. I never liked beef liver but I have fond memories of moose liver and onions from back in my meat-eating days.

And if I wanted to kill I would have hunted for a brown bear only. I would have had one in four hours. But you don’t eat brown bears and not required to do anything except skin it. Ever hear me say I wanted one, and never will. Only if I was attacked. Moose is a hell of a lot harder hunt and you eat them. Jesus you people piss me off

Yep it is regulated more than folks know. You have a passion for the exotic and pay dearly for the quest. I believe in freedom, not just my own but for everybody. cept fer the old moose. The moose don't have a choice how to die but nature can be more cruel and painful in the path to oblivion than a marksman's aim.

And dougy ever seen a herd of muskox close and personal, ever camped under the aura on the side of a mountain with brown bears. Ever been 75 miles in the middle of nothing and feel like your home. Didn’t think so as you would not question a yay moose. And on top of all of that get food for a pile of people. Didn’t fucking think so. Enjoy your tv and lounge chair as that is not life to me

Herds of muskox everywhere. They look cute but it’s mating season and they are mean and aggressive. We also counted 14 brown bear. Little spooky when field dressing a moose knowing they are around

Exactly don I want strawberry with white frosting. Also you want work, try backing a moose out to a road 75 miles in the Bush. If it wasn’t for the native family who helped we would still be making trips up and down the mountain. And the authorities check every piece of meat to make sure no waste. But I am a hunter and a meat eater sorry if some here don’t get it. I grew up in the mountains that’s what we do

Jack Campin:

"American gun-nuts are the righteous instrument of a wrathful God who hates the natural world."

Considering how you wrote approvingly of a Palestinian 'gun-nut' who assassinated Robert Kennedy I think it is you who are assuming the role of a wrathful god.

"... suggest to me that it's more about the killing than the eating." You are wee bit correct but it goes far, far deeper than the connotation you impart, and for good reasons. And, no, I won't explain. Just wish I could hunt again.

BTW. When I was 12, I ran a trap line to help put food on the table. At 14, I hunted to put food on the table. When I was 25, I hunted to eat my history... now, ain't THAT poetic?

Boiler Room, buddy. In and out.

I could go on about how First Nations feed themselves, relatives, neighbours, the elders .....

I have no complaint against people hunting for food but thread titles such as "Yay I got a moose permit ..." and "Oh yes moose" suggest to me that it's more about the killing than the eating.

Three of the world's great lies:
         "It's in the post";
         "I'll phone you back";
         "I only kill what I need to survive".

"Obviously vermin that need to be exterminated, and psycho American gun-nuts are the righteous instrument of a wrathful God who hates the natural world." You haven't a clue what you are talking about. Go picket a butcher shop... preferably with the picket sign shoved up your ass.

"If your son-in-law has already got one, why do you need a turn? How many moose does it take to feed a family?" One per family per year but it depends on the size of the family. In this case, there are two families. As well, many hunters share with others. I could go on about how First Nations feed themselves, relatives, neighbours, the elders but I feel my time would be wasted.

YO DAN! Congrats to your SIL and I hope you knock a monster. Wish I was there for a steak, buddy. Send me some pics. RRRRrrrrrrrRRRR!

One fully grown moose, correctly butchered and packed, will pretty well fill a normal family-sized chest freezer. But that's a shed-load of very lean, often strongly flavoured meat, and eventually somebody at the table is sure to say, "Mooseburgers? Again?"

With more than one moose tag in the family, I would want to be planning a replay of the feeding of the five thousand.
