The 2018 (19th Annual) Portsmouth (NH) Maritime Folk Festival (PMFF) will be taking place September 29th and 30th, in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

We've got a great lineup (in no particular order) -- The Johnson Girls, John Roberts, Ken Schatz, Spitzer and Mareva, Tim Eriksen, David Jones, A.J. Wright, Craig Edwards, Jeff Warner, Gina Dunlap, London Julie, Two Old Friends, Mudhook...and, as they say, more.

There's a full performer list with bios, etc. at the website -- 2018 PMFF -- along with information, videos, and news clips about past festivals, printable PDFs of the schedule, and information about the SONGWRITING CONTEST. The open sing that has been traditionally held at the Press Room (which is still closed for renovations) will be held again at the Portsmouth Gas Light. And the unofficial Friday evening kickoff session will be held again downstairs at the Thirsty Moose on Congress St., Friday, September 28th, from 4:30 to 8:30.

Everything is FREE (though a minimum donation of $5 is requested for the concert). From the songwriting contest on Saturday morning, music at the historic Moffatt-Ladd House and the lawn of the John Paul Jones House to the Saturday night concert, street busking, mini-concerts and open sings (TWO venues on Saturday), to the closing shanty blast in the Square on Sunday... Please check the online schedule.

Come and enjoy all the FREE music in Portsmouth, NH on the weekend of September 29th and 30th!

Linn

Still going! I'm not a morning person, but I hope to arrive in time to check in to my hotel, unpack, get downtown, figure out the parking meters/garage payment kiosks, get my bearings of the festival area, and get to the Thirsty Moose in time for the kick-off! The older I get, the more anxious I get about coping in unfamiliar surroundings. Will there be printed maps and schedules available at the Thirsty Moose?

The program, which includes a map and schedule as well as performers' bios, and other information, will probably be available at the session at the Thirsty Moose, but will definitely be available at the Tourist Information kiosk in Market Square (about a block from the Thirsty Moose).

Programs are also available at most of the festival venues during the performances and on Saturday morning with the Roving Shanties.

PDFs of the schedule can be downloaded from the website, too, so you can plan your days.

Thanks! I like to plan, but I don't like PDFs and I don't have a printer! I'm at the library and could use their computers and printers, but I already used one and, thinking I was done with the 'Net, I logged off and won't be able to get on again today. (I'm using my own device now which is much easier for sites that use passwords.) The next time I come I'll decide if I want to pay to print the information or will continue to wait until I arrive for the festival. Or I could print the info at a nearby "rich town's" library that charges less/page than my own "poor town's" library!

ChanteyLass, I just sent an overview of your problems to the PMFF board and got the following response from the member who redesigned the website --

"While it doesn't address every concern raised - the new website contains dynamic maps with directions, venues, and parking ... and it scales well to the different screens on phones, tablets, etc. A phone with data service would get one all the info they needed without any wireless service or printing."

Hope this helps!

The unofficial kickoff at the Thirsty Moose was fabulous! Great singing and singing along, I'm sorry I had to leave a little early. Stupid 3-hour parking limit!
