Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Georgia Pineywoods From: GUEST,Al Milliken Date: 27 Nov 20 - 09:31 AM This is not a change, Jim nailed it. The OB original version had an orchestra with snare drum, that creeped into some bluegrass in the 1960's I think as part of "THAT NASHVILLE SOUND" trend that was the beginning of the end of "Country Music". When we do it in a show we say "owe more money than Sears is worth", We do not know how much money Creaser's wife had, Just saying?? |
Subject: Lyr Add: GEORGIA PINEYWOODS From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Sep 18 - 09:00 PM Here’s how I hear it. (I also looked up some discographical data): GEORGIA PINEYWOODS* Written by Boudleaux Bryant & Felice Bryant As recorded by The Osborne Brothers on “The Osborne Brothers” (1971) and several other albums. INTRO: Miss those Georgia Pineywoods, Ancient home of the Creek, And the Cherokee, And me. 1. I was born in the Georgia Pineywoods, Fifteen miles from a groc’ry store— No TV or gold-plate shiny goods, Cracked linoleum on the floor. We had cows in the back fields grazin’, Chickens a-cacklin’ out in the pen Life was good but it's amazin’ How I couldn’t see that back then. CHORUS: Miss those Georgia Pineywoods. Wonder if they miss me. Lonesome for those Pineywoods, Ancient home of the Creek, And the Cherokee, And me. 2. When I’d look for Indian arrowheads, I was happy as Borden's cow. I’ve lost all my Indian arrowheads. They ain't no good to me here nohow. I get paid now by the hour And lead my typical suburb life. Got credit cards and buyin' power, And I owe more money than Caesar's wife. CHORUS * Also spelled, on some albums, GEORGIA PINEY WOODS. ** On Buck Owens’ recording of this song, he seems to sing: No TV or gold-plate china couldI think this is a mondegreen committed by Owens. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Georgia Pineywoods From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Sep 18 - 01:50 AM A little more info from a second email: Thanks! Here's some add'l info: Altho many people sing "ancient home of the Cree and the Cherokee" this is incorrect. The Cree were in Canada, north and West of Lake Superior. The Creek were in Georgia. This is transcribed as "The Bottle Hill Boys" did it. The Osbornes only sing the first two lines of the chorus as an intro vs the whole chorus as an intro. Also I think the Osbornes do it in Bb. The song is on (I think) The Bottle Hill Boys album "A Rumor in Their Own Time". There are some cuts from the album on YouTube but not Georgia Pineywoods. They used to sing the first chorus acappello and slow, then launch into the first verse. By the way, The Borden's cow reference is from an old advertising campaign having to do with Borden's cows being happy and therefore producing better milk. I remember seeing it on billboards a lot when I was growing up. Bob |
