SCOTTISH BREXIT OR REMAIN
(Jim McLean)
Tune: Gordon Broon's Body lies a mouldering in his grave.

The Tories hate the Muslims, and the Labour hate the Jews.
The English hate the SNP, the greens all hate the blues.
Boris hates remainers and he disnae want tae lose
So Brexit marches on.
Glory, glory what a Helluva mess we're in,
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge, will we sink or will we swim?
If Brexit marches on.

We'll tighten up oor borders, an you'll no get in or oot,
Nae foreigners tae dig the tatties, nor tae pick the fruit.
Nae foreign nurses either, we just dinnae gie a hoot
If Brexit marches on.
Glory, glory whit a Helluva mess we're in
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge, will we sink or will we swim?
But Brexit marches on.

The farmers and the fishin' folk think life will a' be swell
The bureaucrats in Brussels they can jump or go tae hell.
But when the cash fae Euorope goes, whit story will they tell?
If Brexit marches on.
Glory, glory whit a Helluva mess we're in
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge, will we sink or will we swim?
But Brexit marches on.

Theresa May an Corbyn are a pair o' Brexiteers,
They couldnae gie a docken for oor worries or oor fears,
It's time for INDEPENDENCE or it's goin' tae end in tears
If Brexit marches on.
Glory, glory whit a Helluva mess we're in
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge, will we sink or will we swim?
When Brexit marches on.

Well I believe in Scottish sovereignty, always have, even when the SNP were called "Tartan Tories", but I just cannot understand how we equate our love for our nation with voiceless membership of a corrupt undemocratic United States of Europe.
When the European Army is called up we will have no say when "their braggarts crusely craw" and looking at the types of governments representing most EU countries, we will be marching under a gey queer flag.
Concentrate on real independence Jim my friend.

It's awfie tempting to pursue the political argument here, but if we do that the thread will deserve to be moved below the line. Let's stick to commenting on the song. I deem it a fine statement of a respectable set of views, whether or not we agree with those views.

"Let's stick to commenting on the song. I deem it a fine statement of a respectable set of views, whether or not we agree with those views." - Richard Mellish

By all means Richard let's comment on the song:

Tune: Gordon Broon's Body lies a mouldering in his grave. [Last I knew Gordon Brown, apart from Theresa May the worst Prime Minister the UK has ever known is very much alive - But it indicates McLeans grip on reality - The tune he uses is The Battle Hymn of the Republic - I thought such a talented musician and song writer would have known that]

The Tories hate the Muslims
[Really?], and the Labour hate the Jews [But DtG, pfr, Steve Shaw, et al keep telling us that this is not so, it is a figment of every sentient human being's imagination?].
The English hate the SNP
[Well oddly enough McLean they don't. If Scotland wants "independence" and rule from Brussels all they have to do for IndyRef2 is allow the "English" to vote on it and Scotland will find itself out of the Union on its arse in a trice], the greens all hate the blues [Musical reference?].
Boris hates remainers and he disnae want tae lose
[No old chap he doesn't hate them he just backs what the electorate of the UK voted for - that is what is called respecting democracy]
So Brexit marches on.
[Correct the UK will leave the EU on the 29th March 2019]
Glory, glory what a Helluva mess we're in,
[No we are not]
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge
[What cliff McLean? Only 6% of the companies in the UK trade with the EU, as far as Scotland goes trade with the EU is worth £12.7bn, trade with the rest of the UK is worth £48.7bn, tell us McLean which side is Scotland's trade, industry and commerce's bread buttered on?], will we sink or will we swim? [Benefit junkie Scotland, independent under the SNP will definitely sink, they've wracked up £13bn in debt in three years and Scotland's 2.5m tax payers have no way of paying it back. Your independent Scotland will be worse off than Greece if your idiotic ideas come to fruition]
If Brexit marches on.

We'll tighten up oor borders, an you'll no get in or oot,
[Now who exactly has stated this?]
Nae foreigners tae dig the tatties, nor tae pick the fruit.
[All depends McLean if the Scots want their chips and deep fried Mars Bars they might just have to get off their arses and work instead of fawning over bloody idiotic parodies (which raises the question why can't you write your own tunes?)]
Nae foreign nurses either
[Really? where and when has anybody said that. or is this just more politically motivated misleading propaganda?], we just dinnae gie a hoot

[If VAT remains at exactly the same level not one single subsidy needs to change and the UK can pocket our current net contribution - unless you hadn't realised McLean the UK puts more into the EU than it gets out that is a verifiable fact, we are the EU's second highest net contributor - still it is normal for you not to let fact get in the way of your hate filled whinging propaganda]

[Oddly enough McLean what with all this talk about the "Chequers" Deal and BRINO, at the next election and IndyRef2 I am actually thinking of voting SNP and YES as that will guarantee that Scotland at least will be OUT of the EU on what all the witterers call a "Hard Brexit". Then provided all the other EU member states agree unanimously to Scotland's application for membership it will be 2040 at the earliest that Scotland will be able to join]
Glory, glory whit a Helluva mess we're in
Glory, glory are we oot or are we in?
We're fa'en owre a cliff edge, will we sink or will we swim?
When Brexit marches on.

Now then Richard let's see if the mods let this stand, I strongly doubt it as they really do hate the idea of free speech, they prefer to run an "Echo Chamber" where everyone is in agreement. In the above I have only commented on the song. But I can guarantee that this post will be responded to in insult and personal attack with not one contributor addressing the points raised

One further comment and this is on the author of the above untitled song. Isn't it wonderfully altruistic of him to wish "INDEPENDENCE" on Scotland and the Scots, while he, a declared Scottish Nationalist Republican Marxist, no doubt will continue to live and work in LONDON.

Akenaton I believe in both Scottish independence and European Union, not necessarily on economic grounds but that we can have a better chance of living peacefully together. I don't believe Germany or France are less independent, a certain amount of loss of sovereignty must be experienced, compromise in joining a club which can only be changed while being a member. I don't think we have a voice while the Westmister government speaks for us, or not, as is the case.
We obviously have different opinions on this but at least you don't launch into a humourless, personal attack on me like Observer.
I was expecting his response but nothing as silly as this.
I hope anyone else reading these posts will not rise to his ludicrous remarks, even spending time on discussing the tune I use! Was this person born without the humour gene?
I wondered how long it would take for Observer to attack me, something I fully expected when I posted this song.
The more nonsense he spouts, the more laughable he becomes.
He says I am a declared Scottish Nationalist Republican Marxist .. take the Marxist off and he's dead right, the only correct honest statement he's made.
He, of course, prefers anonymity, a cowards mask while making nasty comments.
As for living in London, I opposed Apartheid while not living in South Africa.

I don't think it's anything personal, Jim. He attacks anyone and anything that does not agree with his view of the world. Before his membership was revoked and he could post below the line he attacked Eric Bogle's "No Mans Land" in a very similar fasion. You are in good company. Maybe you could start a club? :-)

He's not anonymous. He's Teribus, aka Bill Woodcock. Only in m'humble, of course. One effect of shifting this below the line would be to prevent his and akenaton's entryism that enables them to sow political discord. I've even been attacked in this thread before I'd posted anything to it. Very bad form. Shifting it wouldn't be the right thing to do, of course, as that would be defeatest. The current policy of allowing unlogged-in people to post to this website imposes on the mods a very unfair burden, again in m'humble. The easiest thing is to stop posting to the thread. Brilliant song, by the way!

I learned on a previous thread that he was trolling that it was pointless trying to discuss or answer his points, no matter how unjust or ill informed, so i took to ignoring him. But...it is annoying to stop posting to the thread when others may have info to contribute, or just be interested in what is being discussed.

I tuned out when Observer wrote that Gordon Brown was still alive so Gordon Brown's body was NOT lying a-mouldering in his grave! Some observation,
I still can't stop laughing.

Why we'll never get rid of trolls here is because you folks love them.

Jim posts song lyrics, which opens things up for the troll WHO CAN'T POST BELOW THE LINE to get into a political spat. And THAT is what all of you choose to reply to. He was at least replying to the song lyrics. What are you replying to?

Now, who exactly is messing this thread up? (And "but he MADE me do it" is not an acceptable answer.)

Jim, I don't think there is any need for animosity and the little gang who wind up matter in the BS section just cant wait to spread spread their bile up here. The first negative post regarding your song was mine, but I'm sure you are a big enough man to accept criticism......Brexit is not a party political issue and it is an extremely complicated issue which will affect the future of all of us, our children and grandchildren.
Too many people see it as black/white, left/right, rich/poor issue, but the world is changing rapidly, there is a new world order being constructed and the development of Africa and India is the prize, being involved in that development as a sovereign nation is the only way to assure a reasonable future.
As a Nationalist, I would prefer to see ourselves free of the EU yoke BEFORE we leave the UK.....if we do not, true Independence for Scotland will never be achieved.

The protests over the siting of WMDs on Scottish soil was relatively simple.....If these weapon were to be sited in the Thames Estuary instead of close to the Central Belt of Scotland there would have been an revolution in England, but Brexit is much more nuanced and simplistic messages will not suffice. I have enjoyed many of your songs and hope you don't take my words personally Ake.

In an independent Scotland I hope we don't need the piracy of "free movement".....which was really just an EU scheme to rob poor countries of their work force and provide a lot of cheap labour tae the rich wans.

Thanks, Pat, hope you are both well.

I'm going to close this thread. Jim's song is good, but the music section is not intended to be a forum for the nasty political discussion that followed. Songs like Jim's are encouraged, but political discussion and acrimony should go in the BS section.
