Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Bonzo3legs Date: 20 Sep 18 - 07:53 AM I would only consider stockpiling Dulce de Leche!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: vectis Date: 20 Sep 18 - 05:35 AM Marmite is made under licence here in New Zealand and the local version tastes like total shite. If production moves it WILL taste different and they will lose umpteen customers. They have to import the original English stuff here under the ÖurMate"brand to satisfy the ex pats here who can't stand the ersatz local stuff. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 20 Sep 18 - 04:34 AM Marmite rules! No need to stockpile. If production is moved to the EU I suspect that the UK will not apply tariffs on its import but if it stays in the UK, the EU will apply tariffs on imports to there. Sadly one of the effects of brexit may be this type of job loss. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Mr Red Date: 20 Sep 18 - 04:33 AM I thought they still had the traditional jars, with bizarre names instead of the word Marmite. Ya gotta give them marketing guys credit. The brand is so well known they can muck about with the label and everyone knows they are buying the genuine article (made wherever) or saving their money (and palette). And just to annoy traditionaists, don't they get their yeast from Burton Breweries, the biggest of which is now American - Coors. Coors blimey mate. Marmite comes from America............. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Mr Red Date: 20 Sep 18 - 04:25 AM I ain't the shift in headquarters that was reported, it was the shift in production. The BBC were careful to say Unilever were considering. Think about it - make it in Europe and European sales will be affected by any tariffs. Whereas in the UK consumption isn't about how much it costs. We are talking about a religion after all.......... Me? A Marmite atheist, devout atheist too. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Jos Date: 20 Sep 18 - 04:16 AM I stockpiled marmite several years ago when they decided to introduce up-side-down squeezy bottles and for THEIR convenience made all the marmite soft enough to 'squeeze'. It no longer had that nice firm untouched surface when you opened a new jar. Do those squeezy bottles still exist or have they been totally rejected by marmite lovers? |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Iains Date: 20 Sep 18 - 04:06 AM As far as I am aware the shift of Corporate headquarters to the Netherlands is by no means a certainty, so I suspect threats of shifting production are merely just threats. A link would be useful https://seekingalpha.com/news/3390575-fight-unilevers-headquarters-shift |

Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Senoufou Date: 20 Sep 18 - 03:42 AM Stockpile the stuff immediately. (I love Marmite, but one only needs a smidgeon at a time, so a stockpile of, say, ten jars would see one out of this life.) By the way, what happened to the proposal that the French would be producing our new blue British passports? |
Subject: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Mr Red Date: 20 Sep 18 - 02:56 AM Brexit. Unilever doesn't know yet if it will shift production to the continent. WTF? |
