My sister, the little monkey, sent me a card with a huge spider on the front. Husband produced a most beautiful card covered in flowers and glitter. He always writes a long, loving essay in French on the back, which always makes me happy.

One of the cats (Murphy) has been sick on the hall carpet, a true feline Birthday gift.

Unfortunately, I had to have several blood tests this morning at a local surgery, and the lovely nurse, Jayne, kept taking one ampoule after another until I reckoned I must be nearly empty, so I've had a nice long nap to recover.

Blood tests are not the best of things for birthday presents but I can beat it. On my 60th I had a colonoscopy! They took an internal picture too which now has pride of place on the bookshelf. Makes an excellent talking point :-D

Think you'll be amazed at the refurbishment....everything has been reinstated as it was, sensational.....but also so very sad as CRMs art school eent up in flames for the second time in 4 years (while the repair and refurbishment from 1st fire was ongoing) poor old Sauchiehall st...much of it is closed off due to that fire and another one farther down the street

It was hard to believe when the art school burnt down again and more completely than last time, but the latest I've heard is that it is to be rebuilt exactly as it was - they have complete specifications, plans, drawings and photographs. But goodness knows how long it will take.

I haven't had a buttered crumpet for a while because I've been told to lose a bit of weight :( But I've now lost a stone and a half, 21 pounds,so perhaps...
The best present of all was a phone call from my dear sister. She's still poorly with post-Covid lungs, but is being very stoic & stalwart and trying to walk around her village in Scotland further and further each time. She bought an oxygen machine for use at night, so her O2 levels are getting better. It was so lovely to hear her voice.
Also, my husband's sister Ramatou has started to recover from the bad bout of malaria (we sent money for a medic with a drip) (I mean a transfusion drip hee hee) and she's no longer vomiting.
So all the lovely greetings on Mudcat, and both our sisters getting better. What a fantastic birthday eh?

I did have one toasted crumpet loaded with butter, and managed to resist a second one.
My sister is sadly still 'under par' with this extra-long Covid. She's a determined lady, and is now teaching bridge as well as playing in tournaments. Also trying to do her table-tennis again at the club. Some of the players are over 80! She trails round the hilly places near her home with her daughters and their partners. She makes me feel rather lazy!

My funny neighbour-across-the-road made me die laughing yesterday. She handed me a little paper bag and said, "Hairs anutha present for yew. It's a day late!" Inside was a little plastic urine sample pot. She knows I have to have some tests at the doctor's in a couple of weeks and I'd told her I didn't have any suitable container for my sample. She added that she'd been tempted to gift-wrap it, but had decided not to bother. Normal for Norfolk!

Thank you all once again for your good wishes and kind greetings.
I had a very nice birthday yesterday. Neighbours flocked round (including the two gay veterinary nurse ladies next-door, who have a Sanctuary for farm animals threatened with death by cold-hearted farmers). They are so sweet and kind, and may get married soon. They brought a lovely bouquet of flowers and some table mats with decorations of farm scenes. (I help them a bit financially with their Charity)
Husband sent me a lovely handbag (via a courier) and a card with lots of love in, and he's saying we'll probably get back together before long, which I long for.
My sister phoned and we had a lovely long chat. So did an old friend in Somerset, who's 83!
I sat on The Bench in the warm sun, and all the village dog-owners walked by with their pooches, wishing me a Happy Birthday. It was just lovely.
I feel so lucky, and the kind comments on Mudcat have added to that feeling. So thank you all again XX

Thank you so much keberoxu. So kind of everybody! I don't actually feel all that much older (I'm 73 now!) although sitting on The Bench in the sunshine has tanned my face and given me a few wrinkles. Ah well, at least it may have boosted my vitamin D levels, which helps the immune system! As my (very) Norfolk neighbour says, "Yew gotta keep a-troshing mawther!"

Thank you Donuel for asking about my sister, who has Long Covid. She's still rather weak and poorly, and has badly hurt her knee. She's been told she must travel all the way up to near Aberdeen for an MRI scan, and may need an operation.

Hello everybody! And thank you all for your good wishes on my birthday!
I'm still alive and kicking, and had a very nice day on Sunday. My husband drove me over to the McDonalds near Norwich airport, and the staff there presented me with a beautiful bouquet of autumn flowers!On arriving home later, I found many cards had been posted through our letterbox from lots of the neighbours in this village.
It's been raining constantly here in Norfolk, and many fields are flooded. We could do with some dry weather and sunshine. This morning, a huge tree fell over into the road which exits the village, but fortunately, the village men cut it up (for firewood!) and got it out of the way. And nobody was driving along when it fell, or someone could have been crushed!
It feels a bit weird to be 75 years old, but 'the alternative is worse' as they say, hee hee!

Thank you Keberoxu. No, I haven't heard anything yet from the hospital about my gall bladder removal operation. And my poor husband has been to the hospital eye clinic many times due to a suspected glaucoma situation. The NHS seems to have crumbled away, and it's such a palaver to try and contact one's GP surgery.
I agree that 75 isn't all that old. I learned yesterday that a nice lady up the road is actually 90 years old, and another lady on the other side of our village is 99!!!

I have friends who were marrying when I started high school, one is now 90, the others are merely in their late 80s. Several use walking sticks, & all of us have sore bits, but some of them are in better health than me! And of course some are not.

A few years before covid I met a friend's friend who was playing 8 holes of golf at 97, no doubt it was a slower stroll around the course, she has now passed 100 (102? 103?) & is no long playing, but is in very good health.
