i just got a fiddle for christmas and I only know five chords, D, G, Am, C, and Dm. Does anybody out there know how to play the fiddle?

Hi Jesse and Merry Christmas! I have lots of fiddle tablature and I'm just now learning how to transpose from musical notes to tablature. I still can't read music by site that fast! Most fiddlers I know don't know any chords: they are either playing single string lead or are taking long rests. What a concept! Fiddles accompanying other instruments!

had a book of mandolin chords once...scared me silly!..my fingers won't bend that way...maybe fiddles are a bit easier

Actually, here is an even better illustration of how to learn where to put your fingers to play the notes. Since fiddles don't have "frets" this will help you hit the right sound till you get used to the fiddle.

Then get some tab and you'll be playing the first day, not great, but definetly playing! Nancy
