DigiTrad:

Question settled - it's "could" not "couldn't".

I just checked my book "I Come for to Sing", Bob Gibson's autobiography. It has the lyrics to this song published on it - and it's "I could miss Miss Wonderful" on the book.

On my Bob Gibson Lyrics website: http://ddpro.ucoz.com/bgchords/lftyisn.htm.

Thanks very much for the lyrics, Jim. I think that Bob sang "bring this searching to an end" instead of "concentrate on my new friend" in the performance video.

[G]Sometimes there's a sweeter curve,
[Bm]A different way to touch the nerve,
[C]Exciting just because it's strange and [Am]new.
[C]But then the novel-[Am]ty wears thin.
[G]I have to face the [E]fact again:
[C]I'm looking for the [D]you in someone [G]new.

[C]And all the time I look for you,
I'm [G]blind to everything I see.
[Am]I couldn't miss Miss Wonderful
[C]If she were standin' [Am]right in front of [D]me. [/C/B/A]

LOOKIN' FOR THE YOU
Written by Bob Gibson
As recorded by Bob Gibson on "Uptown Saturday Night" (1984)

1. Sometimes there's a sweeter curve,
A different way to touch the nerve,
Exciting just because it's strange and new,
But then the novelty wears thin.
I have to face the fact again
I'm looking for the you in someone new.

2. So I invent new fantasies
Of brand-new thrills I think I need,
Then I seek them out, but when I'm through,
It hurts me then to realize
It's just a futile exercise,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

BRIDGE: And all the time I look for you,
I'm blind to everything I see.
I could miss Miss Wonderful
If she were standin' right in front of me.

3. So I flirt and carry on,
A not-so-satisfied Don Juan.
I'm sorry; I don't know what else to do.
To some it must look pretty sad
To search so hard for what I had,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

REPEAT BRIDGE

4. Maybe someday I'll discover
The one who is the perfect lover,
And I can close the books on me and you,
Concentrate on my new friend,
Never have to go again,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

[The performance video linked by Boot Leg above has a couple of variants from these lyrics (1) I think he sings "couldn't" instead of "could" in the bridge, but this doesn't make as much sense to me as "could." (2) I think he sings a different line instead of "concentrate on my new friend" in verse 4, but I can't make out what it is.

I just uploaded a video of Bob singing the song at Charlotte's Web in Rockford, IL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A84pU6Y35Hk

Marcus did a very nice cover version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_uylL5i2OQ. I think I'm gonna do this song too when I get the proper lyrics.

Hmmm. I guess it makes sense either way. I'm traveling and have a bad Internet connection. I won't be able to listen for two weeks. Anybody else want to make a stab at transcribing this?

Joe, I actually hear "I couldn't miss Miss Wonderful". I think it also makes more sense that way.

Sometimes there's a sweeter ???
A different way to touch the nerve
Exciting just because it's strange and new
But then the novelty wears thin
I have to face the fact again
Looking for the you in someone new

So I invent new fantasies
Of brand new thrills I think I need
Then I seek them out but when I'm through
It hurts me then to realize
It's just a ??? exercise
Looking for the you in someone new

And all the time I look for you
I'm blind to everything I see
I could miss ??? wonderful
If she were standing right in front of me

So I flirt and carry on
I'm not so satisfied on one
I'm sorry I don't know what else to do
To some it must look pretty sad
To search so hard for what I had
Looking for the you in someone new

And all the time I look for you
I'm blind to everything I see
I could (couldn't?) miss Miss Wonderful
If she were standing right in front of me

Maybe someday I'll discover
The one who is the perfect lover
And I can close the books on me and you
Concentrate on my new friend
Never have to go again
Looking for the you in someone new

Hi - I moved your request over to the existing thread on this song, so I hope you find it.

Can you post what lyrics you have, so maybe we can help you with the rest of them? I couldn't find the song on Spotify, YouTube, or on the four Bob Gibson albums I have.

The song is on Bob Gibson's album Uptown Saturday Night. I have the chords but there are a few words I cannot make out. Can anyone please transcribe the words, and I'll post the chords later. Thanks.

Have a Merry Cristmas all!

This was an LP only I believe. Was on a label put out by Anne Hills and her husband (then) Jan Burda. The name of the MUSIC store that Jan & Anne founded in the 70's in Evanston, IL was HOGEYE MUSIC AND THE RECORD LABEL THIS WAS ON WAS ALSO hogeye. tHE LABEL IS LONG GONE. tHE SHOP Is now owned and run by JIM CRAIG.
