Subject: Kid’s Songs About Franco & Sp.Civil War From: GeoffLawes Date: 13 Oct 18 - 04:20 AM Does anyone know any children’s songs or playground chants about Franco and the Spanish Civil War? I have looked in “The Law And Language Of Schoolchildren” by Iona & Peter Opie where Hitler and Mussolini get plenty of mentions but I found nothing about the Spanish Civil War and Franco. In the Mudcat permathread “Songs In English About The Spanish Civil War” I have posted details of one song called “ The Spanish People “ which was sent to me by Clare Roberts back in 2012; THE SPANISH PEOPLE words - Anon, music - Samuel Pokrass The Spanish people defend their right For freedom and progress and truth they fight, Now shall we delay while our comrades die To strengthen our peace and our liberty? Against the Hitlers, the Mussolinis! Against the fascist enemy! For peace and progress, for truth and freedom, For people's true democracy! Against the Hitlers, the Mussolinis! Against the fascist enemy! For peace and progress, for truth and freedom, For people's true democracy!
But I think that there are likely to be other songs or fragments that are out there somewhere?? |

"Ils ont des chapeaux ronds" is a rugby song, "Il est né le divin enfant" is a Christmas carol, "1km à pied" is a marching song, "J'ai du bon tabac" is a satirical song from the 1700's, "L'amour est enfant de Bohème" is from Bizet's opera "Carmen", "Maréchal, nous voilà!" was dedicated to Marshall Pétain during WWII, "Aux armes, citoyens, têtes de chien" is the chorus of a camp song based on the chorus of "La Marseillaise" and you'll read at the top of that last page the verses partly based on "Dans la forêt lointaine". |
