For a small group or single person protest they must stay on the sidewalk but the 20 ft sidewalks have been reduced to 4 ft on the Mall and around the White house. Trump is hoping no one can claim their first amendment rights are not being abridged. We will see when the arrests for not being on the official sidewalk begins. The Puerto Rican offices of the mayor of San Juan (the outspoken critic of Trump) were raided on orders by Trump to get to the bottom of corruption. Papers please deportation, child seperation and internment camps in the desert only 1/2 the gov. positions filled... The purges continue. I think Alec Baldwin should get a Medal of Honor from the next President for Baldwin's service to the country in portraying Trump on Saturday Night Live. I think that Congress is generally doing a pretty good job of not carrying out Trump's wishes. He got the tax cut and two Supreme Court appointments (the courts are a serious concern), but not much else. One of my biggest concerns, is what Trump appointees are doing to dismantle the functions of most executive agencies. It's impossible to assess the amount of damage done in that way, but it's clear that damage is considerable. -Joe- |

And I think this "Pocahontas" thing is a non-issue, except to point out once again the abusive way that Trump addresses people other than himself and his minions who are temporarily in favor. It's a nice family story, and Warren no doubt tells it to show she comes from a normal background with normal family problems. There's a story about the "schism" in my family because my Irish aunt's brother married an Italian, and my aunt wouldn't let her husband and children have anything to do us in the family who had contact with that Italian woman, who was a friend of my mother. So, I didn't see my cousins from the time I was two until I was 60 and my cousins broke their mother's taboo. Some people discriminate, but I prefer to associate with people who don't buy into discrimination. And it's nice to get to know my cousins after all those years of separation. Warren didn't make a big deal about having an ancestor who was Native American - she just talked about it sometimes because it was a good, folksy story to tell. That is, until Trump came on the scene, and found a way to capitalize on the story by calling her "Pocahontas" - telling the story over and over again, even to a group of Navajo code talkers. And then, in another mocking speech, he offered a million-dollar donation to charity if Warren would take a DNA test to determine if she had any Native American ancestry. There are some who are trying to say Warren insulted Native Americans by taking Trump up on his dare, but that's downright silly. Warren wasn't trying to claim membership in a tribe or collect tribal benefits or take advantage of minority status. Nothing like that at all. She was just trying to silence Trump and his insults, which were insulting to Warren, to women, and to Native Americans. As shown in his mocking comments about Christine Blasey Ford, Trump likes to insult women, and his "deplorable" followers eat it up. So, don't put the blame on Senator Elizabeth Warren. Yes there was "tape" of Trump offering millions if someone came up with Obama's birth certificate, and yes there was tape of Trump challenging Warren, offering a donation if she could prove American Indian ancestry. Trump seems impervious to shame when people ask him to honor his offer on those challenges. But the news cycle runs so fast and memories so short, it will pass, and the only thing that is going to defeat Trump is a fatal coronary after all of the Big Macs he prefers.
