I met John Taylor in 1976 or 77. I was visiting from Canada, and taking in as many folk festivals as possible. One was the Redcar Folk Festival.
I met John and told him I was visiting from Canada and that I did a folk program on a small independent radio station in Calgary.
He couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful and accommodating!
He introduced me to Vin Garbutt and got me a copy of Vin's "Eston, California." He also introduced me to Willie Scott.
I have thought very fondly of Johnny Taylor and that time for the last 40-odd years. (Still have a Cutty Wren Folk Club sticker on my fiddle case.)
I'll echo others' best wishes to him and his family for a full and speedy recovery.

Oh, that's really sad news! John is one of the nicest backroom men I've known. Salt of the earth. Speedy recovery, John. We're rooting for you.
Thanks for letting us know, Dick! Fond memories of both Redcar and Saltburn.

One of the nicest, hardest working people on the folk scene. Johnny somehow has a knack of making any event he organises as friendly and welcoming as he is. He and his family will be in my thoughts and I wish him a full and speedy recovery. Thank you for letting us know.
