I am pleased to bring to Mudcat attention my new book, accompanied by
2 CDs that contain 35 British, Irish, and American folk ballads and songs newly mastered from my original field recordings in the 1970s.
ONE ROUGH LIFE; Ted Ashlaw: Adirondack Lumber Camp and Barroom Singer
(2018), a U.S. release, is available for order @ www.tauny.org/shop
and $21.95 US.
Ballads and songs found previously on the Ted Ashlaw LP (Philo 1022, 1976) are here doubled, with text transcriptions for each, and tunes as transcribed and with general remarks by eminent musicologist Norman Cazden. I provide concise commentary annotations for each of the unaccompanied renditions.
The 160 pp. book is the first ethnographic and musicological book devoted to a northern New York State traditional singer, born in a lumber camp and esteemed for his lumber woods and barroom singing betwwen WWI and WWII.

I had just a little trouble finding One Rough Life, but the Website's search engine found it for me. Gee, there's a lot of stuff there I'd like to have.
I almost bought a couple of items, but the $9 shipping charge scared me away - after I had already entered my credit card information, at which time no shipping charge was shown. Don't you people know about mailing things media rate?
